Cyberman in FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

yeah cyber-codpiece works best I think.

And will do! Should be up and running again shortly.

Although there are some places on the thigh and where the chest back and front connect that have gaps. Since this is my first foam build what would work best to fill them? I was thinking bondo, but I'm still so new at this.

If I did end up using bondo could I still use plastidip over it?

NO!!! Bondo is too hard, when it dries it won't flex with the foam and you will have cracking. How big are the gaps? I usually cut small strips of foam to glue into those area, or I use hot glue to fill. I also don't think Plasti-dip would hold to bondo, but I've never tried.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

I'll post some pictures tomorrow of the chest section. Mostly small gaps so hot glue seems like it will be easier than trying to cut tiny strips of foam.

And I'm redoing the thigh piece I had finished. Didn't like how it turned out and I still have quite a while before February to finish everything

Thanks Mal!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Okay picture time! This is where the chest front meets the chest side piece on the chest lower level 2 and upper stomach level. They have small gaps that I'll fill with hot glue. Honestly too lazy to cut a piece of foam that tiny.

Progress is slow but steady, so hopefully I'll have more updates in a couple of weeks.

And Harbor Freight has a coupon for the foam packs for $6.99 right now, going through November. I'm definitely going to go pick up a couple more packs just in case.

Awesome job wondersquid :thumbsup ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

After reading this build thread a few times I have been inspired to make my own Cyberman.

Check out my progress :) http://www.therpf.com/f24/cyberman-foam-build-191984/

I have been using some pep files but have been modding these to more simple patterns to use.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

The foam I'm using is a 10mm thick floor mat, comes in a pack of 4.

I'm pretty sure wondersquid is using the same sort of mats for his build.

I have read in the thread you guys in the States get them from Harbour Freight.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

very intereting thread!
I know dr who for a couple of days only,I mean,as a enthusiast.
I just wanted to make a screwdriver one of these days, because of the look,a litle bit like a lightsaber, but I admit I would make much more now, including some screwdrivers,a dalek "furniture" and a cyberman armor.
After looking at your thread, just more and more interesting!

OK people, your wish is finally my command!! The patterns are in a link on the first post, please forgive how long it took to get these posted, but it was an undertaking, to say the least. Please post here your work using the patterns, i want to see how everyone does with these, it will encourage me to make more patterns like this for other stuff, like the NEW cyberman!

Nice man credit to ye for putting in the effort and posting your patterns! I always lose mine when I free hand! I blame it on working on the fly!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

I've been excited for this for a long time. Just shot some money your way for the patterns. I don't think I'll get it done in time for Gally, but I'm thrilled to finally be in a position where I can put this one together. Thanks!

Sorry it took so long, thank you very much for the donation! Just let me know if you need help.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Sure thing. I just picked up one of Weaselflinger's helmet backs the other day, so good timing. After Dragon Con I'll take a look and see if I can't wrap my head around them. I plan to test out the Smooth-on Epsilon stuff on this build.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Haven't been on in a while, I'm so glad this is the first thread to catch my eye. I totally give you props on this project. Thank you for all of the work you've put in and the progress pics. I can see an "Upgrade" in my future.

Here is our Cyberman costume. This forum was an amazing help. My husband wanted to be a Cyberman for DragonCon. I said ok, looked at this forum, and fabricated our first ever costume. It was a big hit. Thanks for all the helpful info.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

That's a great first costume! Thanks for sharing! I finally posted the patterns for mine, if you wish to "upgrade" your costume for next year! :) I'm happy that this thread is helping others to cyberize.
