Hi guys I wanted to share with you the first draft of a Batman cowl I hired an artist to mold for me. This is going to be used for a short film, a scary Batman seen through the eyes of the criminals. I wanted a very wicked and almost satanic looking Batman.
A huge problem that I have seen with other cowls, even the ones used in the films is the lack of peripheral vision and head movement. I want you to take a different approach with this cowl and make it as functional as possible. The artist had a hard time trying to judge the dimensions of my face, so he pulled in a favor from a company and we visited them to get my head scanned. The 3-D scan of my head is accurate down to something like 1/100 of a millimeter so I'd say that's good enough. In the film I and another stuntman will be performing some wild things so it had to be practical for actual use and not just a costume like a latex cowl. Once we do a test print of the nose area we will print the whole thing into three separate pieces ( which are not shown here). Two separate ear pieces that will be cut along the front of my ear around that teardrop shape and the faceplate that will go to the top of the head. The edges of the jaw line, those mandible looking things are so that the hard plastic will not wrap around my jaw and make it uncomfortable to open my mouth. It also makes it more wicked, and reminds me of a Spartan helmet. The three pieces will be a text with the Velcro to either a Lycra or neoprene good, similar to the Netflix daredevil cowl. This will allow for complete head movement, ventilation along the separate pieces and let me hear better. Also if one of the ears gets caught onto something, it won't pull the entire cowl back and drive it into my eyes or nose, or cause them to be unaligned. After a few test prints, the final print will be made out of ABS plastic and is very strong, The same grade that is made out of motorcycle helmets. This is all I have for right now unfortunately but I will share updates as soon as I get them.
Here is the teaser trailer, though the cowl in this isn't the printed cowl. If there is a way to embed the trailer could someone let me know please.
