Cubone Deadpool Build.

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

:thumbsup mate that turned out A-MAZ-ING!!!! and I beg to differ but that is most definitley the best Deadpool mask I have seen... I've never been a fan of the generic type mask etc, this, with the latex eye piece is just badass!!! I would even go as far as to say you could probably make a few $$$ if you started offering them up to other Deadpool fans/costumers :)

Thanks SDUK =] I never was a huge fan of the featureless masks either, that's why I decided to go this route with it. I chose latex as well because it has a more organic look and feel than a resin piece would.

The whole problem with this is that it's custom built to my face and my head :p hah. So it would be hard to make it work for another person the way I have it set up right now!

That's how most people who sell masks do it though tbh dude, I know people who make masks (Robin, Nightwing, Riddler, Green Lantern etc) and they are all made from a self cast, you obviously can't manufacture a mask to each and every customer's form, but you can still get them to fit... I would say have a friend try yours on and see how it works.... coz I can see a few people wanting this type of mask..... just an idea you could consider, but for right now it's yours and it's friggin awesome dude, I am super impressed with how it's turned out and for your first time.... simply WOW ... take a bow sir

Well hmm...I guess I will have to consider this then :p I want to finish the rest of the suit first and then if people are still interested I could probably figure out how much etc. But not until I'm done =] And again I appreciate the words of encouragement. It's what keeps me going and on track with this build for sure!

I think my plan of attack is this. My silicone caulking mold of the belt buckle pieces is ALMOST dry. I made one part waaaay to thick and its taking forever to cure. But I want to get a cast out of those this week. I'm thinking that I may take another huge venture....I'm considering doing a torso cast of myself and sculpting a latex prosthetic of the abs and chest muscles. I'm a pretty built dude as I used to lift and play ice hockey, but my abs are definitely NOT super hero quality :p So maybe just a front torso latex piece that will then attach to an under shirt. And then the usually fabric of the suit over top to get the effect of the muscles. I'd only do that on the chest though, and I wouldn't go crazy huge, just defined. Hmm decisions decisions...

Also as for the rest of the suit. I'm going to firmly attach the red fabric over my latex under hood. I'm going to make a black "collar" that I will then attach to the bottom of my hood. This would attach to the neck of my suit by velcro most likely. The rest of the suit itself would be the same red fabric I used on the mask. And then the black pieces will probably be vinyl quilted to match some reference photos. And I am still planning on doing a Pirate Pool version along with my non-Pirate Pool :lol

Anyways huge long post. I have practice tonight so no updates tonight...apologies...but I will have more for you all tomorrow!

really man, I'm digging your mask. I was pretty proud of mine, but wow can you ever get a lot of detail with the latex. is it durable? I'm pretty clueless about latex, but I may consider looking into it. can't wait for the rest of the costume!

Nooooooooooo, do it for real. Lol, I'm a bit biased, as I personally don't really like the use of muscle suits unless it's for unrealistically large characters. If you're interested, you should check out this thread, even just for some kicks

Anyways, it does sound like a solid plan and I'd like to see where the rest of the costume goes.

I cast mine pretty thick so it is durable. One of my first pulls I actually took and stretched it till I couldn't anymore. And it still didn't tear. So it seems to be holding up pretty good! :p And thanks that means a lot coming from you!

Haha I'm not really talking about a "muscle suit" per say. And I am totally trying to do it for real :lol I just don't have 8+ abs >.< It would only be a tiny exaggeration. probably between 1/8 to 1/4 inch. So not like those comical hugely exaggerated ones. The plan would be to make it look as realistic as possible. Not comical. But I really want to get to the point I can wear it without any exaggeration :love

A little update though. My mold is ALMOST ready for casting my belt buckles! YAY! And I managed to find some fabric to my liking.

This is the black material I am using in place of vinyl. The vinyl was way to stiff to achieve the bends and conforming to joints that DP requires.

I also picked up some faux leather vinyl that I am going to use to make pouches etc.

I also plan to puffy paint some "seam" lines on the outside of hood to make it look like sewing/piping.

But yeah I'm still debating about the whole latex chest piece. Haha. We will see once I get a suit sewn up to see what my body looks like :p

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

Well I de-molded my belt buckles this morning. Good news. The Pirate Mold came out AWESOME. Just need to let it dry a tiny bit more as the surface that was in contact with the clay is still tacky. Bad news....the Regular DP Buckle stuck in the mold and it also didn't cure all the way so it tore huge chunks out. Blah. Oh well it was about 0.10 worth of foam in that sculpt :p Probably will try to clay sculpt it to get what I want. *shrug*

So after class today I am going to airbrush my new latex pull, start drafting patterns for the rest of the suit and if the mold looks good enough cast a pirate buckle and try to sculpt another regular DP belt buckle. Phew a lot of work for me today.

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

That looks awesome. Best one I've ever seen. You should try a faceshell/deadpool mask. Make the middle a faceshell type look with the deadpool eyes, or try a big eye little eye look like he is winking. When you start selling these, I'm gonna get one! And that new venom does look awesome

Hey thanks for the kind words! And I'm not sure what you mean by a faceshell/deadpool mask. Cause that is pretty much what this is. It's a latex face mask with a spandex overhood. None of my actual face is exposed believe it or not.

And I am already sculpting another face :lol I have it all blocked out but it's sitting around waiting for me to decide on the shape of the eyes. Which one of these would be the best?

But anyways I'm still not sure I'm going to mold and sell these. It's a possibility but no one get their heart set on having one soon. Even if I did do it...it would probably be August or later. hah.

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

that second pic is epic! love it!!!
By faceshell he means like what the Spiderman guys wear, it gives a rounded shape to the face and stops your mouth and nose from showing through the material, it's basically like a Jason Voorhees hockey mask but more face formed ... that's the best way I can describe it lol

Not to take away from your thread but I was considering making and selling a version of my mask. I'm planning to have a few within the next couple of weeks. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hah yeah it's from Wade Wilson's War. Comic #4 if I can recall.

Oh Oh Oh! I gotcha! I chose to have my mouth and nose show because in most...not all but most...of the early Deadpool artwork I was going off of you can see his nose and also his mouth expressions. I wanted to still give movement to the face without covering it up. I know that other people have done faceshells. But I'm choosing to go a different route.

Thanks Aeon! coming from you that means a lot. Hopefully I can make you proud with the rest of the suit.

No worries man! That's awesome you are going to be offering a version of your mask! If i wasn't so invested in my own I'd definitely pick one up from you.

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

when you got your template for your hood all correct did you save a digital copy of it? cause it seems both the eye holes in our masks are about the same. Mine could have been a little cleaner as they bunched just a bit. I could trial and error some more i suppose. lol it took me about 20 square feet of material to figure mine out.

Funny enough. I made an Autocad file but I didn't save it =[ But what I did is I modified this Back Seam Hood Tutorial. I added a little bit to the top part on the back of the head. And then when I cut the eyes I put it on my Styrofoam head over my latex mask. I then traced the eye holes out by matching up where the eyebrows etc. were pushing out the fabric. So my eye holes weren't on my original pattern...they were just kind...guesstimating :p

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

not to put any pressure on you or anything but if you sell these, it would definitely push me to put a deadpool costume together,

Re: Deadpool Mask is at Ver. 1.1! Page 2 (1/28/13)

I would even be tempting into purchasing one, Deadpool could well be my next project because of you dude lol!!! damn it!!! lmao!!!

Whhhaaa?! That's crazy talk right there! :p And alright...I guess I could take the blame on that one :love

Anyways so I was up insanely late last night...early this morning..and finally after 8 hours I believe I have my suit design drawn up. There is a large drafting printer on campus I'm pretty sure I can get these at full scale. It's made using my exact body measurements at more than 30 points...talk about getting tired of a tape measure haha :behave

DeadpoolPattern_zps09a76506.jpg

I'm going to print off two patterns. The black and the red. These will be joined before I even start sewing the suit together. I'm hoping I can achieve the layered look I am wanting.
