Crusade/Trill Phaser Observation

I made an interesting observation while recently watching Crusade; the paranoid alien phaser looks like a DS9 Trill phaser. Another interesting in-plot device to note is that this species does not have phaser/laser technology and actually uses black powder type weaponry. The story may even suggest that it was a "found" phaser. So, could this have been a JMS nod to Trek, a suggestion that the species found on Trek interacted with those in the B5 universe or a simple case of a lazy prop master? lol

The interaction of the Trek/B5 species is far unlikely due to the differences in the timelines; B5 was set in the ~2260s which coincides with the time of Trek TOS so there would be far too many inconsistencies to make this believable. :unsure

More Trek references: the first officer states, "They're probably some that say that by doing this we're interfering with their culture." and Gideon responds "Probably. Screw 'em." This last bit of dialog seems to refer to the Trek "Prime Directive" so there may have been a purposeful reason for the phaser being used.

In addition, while not Trek related, the whole episode had an X-Files-type theme to it. :p

Anyhow, I thought is was interesting nonetheless. Here are some screen grabs from the Crusade episode "Visitors from Down the Street" (s1e12) along with a raw resin casting of Trill phaser (credit to Sulla for the picture; posted with permission).

Seeing how they used Starship troopers armor and helmets it wouldn't be a surprise that they used a ST prop. Almost as lazy as the new BSG prop people (using real world weapons).
