Crazy Idea for a STIII Comm...

I recently picked up two promotional crest mail away STV walkie talkies. They are in great shape and staring at them got me thinking. While I wait to pick up a more realistic STIII comm, it might be interesting to create one two-dimensionally. I am a huge fan of surrealist art, and that has led me to use graphics to occasionally fool the eye into thinking something was 3D when a particular greeble is hard to come by.

I would like to print a graphic of a ST3 comm and attach it to the walkie talkie body. If someone would be so kind in PMing me a decent resolution full frontal shot of their ST3 comm, I'll show the results. Judging from the angle of the Walkie Talkie, I think I could pull off something pretty cool. Let me know if you have pics. I have scrounged around the net trying to find one to help explain what I was trying to do, but this comm seems bashful.

Probably not the angle you want, but this is what a photo of my build up off my webpage. I'd take a different photo for you but I'm a 100 miles away from any of my props at the moment.

That's super nice of you! Since I travel home a lot from school, I can't tell you how frustrating it is not to be able to pack up my entire collection and bring it with me!

And ya,' I am looking for a dead on shot I can print and cut out. But thanks a million, this helps.

Hey Tripper,

Ask and you shall recieve!

I bought this little feller on eBay during my "What do you MEAN you are refunding my MR Mark IX preorder money?!" :angry phase. I was looking for something to quickly fill the hole in my collection that had at least minimal bells and whistles. While it was a steal, it needed a lot more work than I anticipated. I have since repainted it, swapped out the graphics, and did some work on the LED bars. I haven't been able to ID the maker, but I know its not a Stapleton. I think it might be an EARLY Gerry Mros styrene special.
It is FAR from perfect, but all in all, I am happy with it. :love

I should mention that before I swapped out the graphics, this looked REMARKABLY similar to the one on ebay that is being sold as a screen used insurrection tricorder. Some say that one is either a GMros or a COMM...

NOW BACK TO OUR PROGRAM THAT IS ALREADY IN PROGRESS...

Yeah looks like GM. What's the inside look like? That'd be telling. Those look like Stapleton's older graphics though.

They are indeed Mr. Stapleton's older graphics.

The inside is pretty war zonish. The battery is a J type which needs to be positioned so that the positive and negatives hit the heads of two skrews. Its knacky and tends to fall lose easily. I needed to secure it with tape.

Well I meant the inside of the tricorder body itself. Resin, fiberglass, styrene, clear vacuformed plastic, etc.

I think we might have very similar ones, Ill take a better picture of it later, but the one I have was confirmed to be made by GMros himself.

In the mean time, its the one on the right in both photos. Its thinner than the Stapleton's beside it. It used to have a j type, but I replaced it with a rechargeable system. Its got a potentiometer for the top scanner area so that you can stop or speed up the lights for the top portion. Its got a mercury switch that controls the sound, which sounds like its a tricorder with the flu a bit...

good work with the graphics replace. I thought about doing that, but I'd want some redone GMros graphics to keep it somewhat original.

Oh and the STIII comm is awesome.... that'll make sure were on topic.

WOW! So comparing them, I would say its likely our tricorders are long lost brothers. Great video BTW!

Since the pics I posted, I have sinced repainted it lighter. I will post new pics soon.

Mine definitely needs a repaint haha, as you can see the blemishes really clear in that vid. It looks good opened heh. My "Power" LED doesn't work nor do the middle 2 on the back scanner. I would love to repair it but the electronics are placed in there so well, I don't want to ruin it by trying to maneuver the circuit boards.

You should totally post pics

Oh and heres a vid of the stapleton in the background. Built this one up for me with electronics I bought from GMros. He is the best!

Wow, what a great piece!

Here are some more pics. The color is only slightly lighter, but I wanted a better match for a Myron tric I have. This thing does have a LOT of imperfections, and I probably should have puttied and sanded before I painted, but it serves its purpose as a background tric (I plan to stick it in one of my Trek Engineering Cases).

Here it is:
