Correct silk for YODA outer robe?

Hey all,

inspired by the recent threads about our famous lil´green friend, I´m in the process of finishing my own interpretation of Yoda.

Problem is that I still haven´t found the correct raw silk here in germany.
I have plenty of "close" fabrics at home and even THE correct stuff, but the piece is not large enough to be sewn into a robe.

I´ve already heard about thaisilks.com but a) they´re out of stock and b) I´d prefer a supplier within europe to avoid customs fees.

So the question is...does anybody have a source for the correct Tussah raw silk within europe?

That's the right stuff, but I think Markus wants it from a distributor located in Europe, rather than the US to avoid customs fees.

thats the firm i used a couple of years ago, just send them an email and see if they can help with the declared value when sending

Like I wrote before, the last time I checked out Thaisilks they were out of stock on the correct fabric. Seems like they restocked the Tussah raw silk now. Will also try to ask for their help with the customs declaration form if I chose to place an order :thumbsup

i found that the silk comes ironed flat, soak it in the bath for an hour or so and it plumps up the strands again.

How many YARDS would I need for a robe?

If memory serves me correctly I think it was 2 yards to do one robe with the weave going the right way.
