Coolest Falcon base -- ever!

Construction has begun.

Sorry for the tease -- no pics yet, and I want to hold on on more revealing info until I have some pics. But rest assured, you will think its ultra cool too, and I'll have more on it tomorrow.

Space slug tongue?

Bespin landing pad?

Star Destroyer hull?

Docking Bay 94?

:D

PM on its way. ;) But, yes -- one of those. ;)

I got the base shape cut out tonight and hope to start detailing tomorrow. If I can just get batteries in my camera, I'll throw up some pics.

Actually... The FM kit represents the 32" model, which is really only seen "landing" once (at least in ESB)... All other scenes were either matte paintings or the 5-footer.

So those who know what scene the 32-incher actually lands, know the base I'm building. :)

Oh you are not..... Get hose batteries .. You put up what I'm thinking, and i may post my fine molds Slave 1 (BF) progress. :D

OK here's the plan... So far I have the base shape cut out, and have collected some materials for detailing... Still not batts.

haha... I knew it... that's fricking great... Are you using "scuplting a galaxy" for the reference?
[/b]

Man is that a great shot or what.? Made the entire book worthwhile (not that the book isn't cool enough regardless.)...

Yes - am using that as reference, plus Chronicles and screen shots. It won't be 100% accurate, either in detailing or in scale/porortions. But I am shooting for about 75% to 90% accuracy. And hopefully I'll pop a few grain-of-wheat bulbs in there too.

Just got back from the hobby store with more doo-dads to detail it with, so I'm off to my shop.

So basically you are going to build an entire wall to simulate a SD bridge pannel. Way cool.
[/b]

Well... Maybe not an entire wall. ;)

Sorry for the delay... Here's some pics.

I'm loving this project. Not only is Chronicles great reference, its a great weight too. ;)

:lol

Fantastic project. Looking forward to ongoing progress reports. :thumbsup

Excellent idea Rob.

I will keep my eye on this one. Looks promising. ;)

Will this be sized for the FineMolds only ... or will a larger size be offered for the MR as well? The MR mount angle of entry is a bit tough and the beastie his HEAVY.

May need a second bird for this one.

Judging from the size of Chronicles to the the base-in-progress, I'd say this is for the Fine Molds.

LOL..the FM would probably be the more wise decision anyway. The MR would just be too heavy to mount sideways with the mounting hole they provide. It would need serious modifications. Still.. a great idea Rob.

Thanks for the kind words, Kurt.

Currently, it's sized for the FM, without concrete plans for anything else (though I have fantasized one sized for the MR.)...

Even sized for the FM, as is mine is still about 5% to 10% smaller than it should be, and you can see how large it is already. It should be just a little taller, offering a tad bit more room above and below the Falcon. And of course it's cut short left and right. What you see in the pics represents about the middle third of the left lobe of the conning tower.

I have thought somewhat more seriously about taking a mold of this, but have many concerns.

First it would take a LOT of material (silicon and resin). Second, based on the way its being put together, I'm afraid there may be LOTS of little areas where silicon can seep under parts and pieces, making demolding a real bitch. Third, I'd probably have to cut the thing into quarters to effectively ship it to anyone. And that's in FM porportions.

Remember that in studio scale, it would be FOUR times the area.

One option for stuio scale would be to forego the trapezoid shape, and simply create a base the same size as the existing MR base, and just detail it accordingly. So essentially you'd have a rectangular base suggesting the Star Destroyer hull surface.
