That can be just as much fun as spending weeks on a prop! I've done a few "24 hour" prop builds... did a lightsaber that way, and a blade runner blaster. Sometimes being under the gun keeps you from obsessing over things for no reason.
I seriously can't wait to see all of these... this is going to be awesome!
A HUGE thank you to the Next Doctor for all this!

It was just so much fun I couldn't stop myself... :$

Talk about over thinking things.... I'm looking at a small pile that represents the final 'driver' ready for gluing and a last minute bit of sanding, filing and fitting, and then next to it is a pile 4 times the size of bits that have previously been part of the build. One plus side of this project is my wife now understands why I keep broken bits and pieces 'just in case'.

Final assembly this weekend, then photograph and submit Monday. Then I need to resist fiddling with it any more.

People generally understand and accept why I keep bits and pieces broken
or otherwise, but they just look at me and sigh when they see my box that
is labeled "Pieces too small to save" :lol

Anyhow.....Pics AWAY, now begins the l o o o n g agonizing w A i T to see
everybody else's!!!

Pictures away... and as above, now comes a week of thumb twiddling. *twiddle twiddle twiddle*.

And to repeat what others have said, huge thanks to the Next Doctor for setting this up. It's been huge fun, painstaking agony, and a few other things in between.

Pictures sent. I had a minor fiasco(Measure twice/cut once :) ) and no time to redo it, so I made do and finished it for photos. Thanks to The Next Doctor and good luck to everyone.

I've been dremeling for hours. A few more hours of hand filing, a bit of paint and epoxy, and wiring the light and I'm good to go.

I'm just back from vacation, so I need to get this thing finished!!!

All I need to do is add the LEDs, and final assembly, then pics are coming.

Almost finished... Gotta figure out how to finish wiring it up and how to attach one element but beyond that we're there. ;)

I just have to solder on the LED, do one more coat of paint on one of the pieces, and glue the back end on and I'm set. I was actually really surprised how mine ended up looking after the trip to the hardware store destroyed my original design.

Got the body and emitter done pretty much but I'm having a hell of a time integrating the electronics.

Boy if I finish it's going to definitely be down to the wire. (No pun intended.)

I think I want to change the color of my LED. And I got a last minute idea for how to improve my light activation mechanism as well. I think I'll need to take another trip to the hardware store/radio shack tomorrow. I can say one thing though, this is the most fun I've ever had building something.

I have given up for tonight. I have to go out to get some finer wire because the wire I have is too thick to fit well in the body and not break solder connections to the sound/light board.

Yea, I just decided to leave sound out of mine. There is plenty of room left to add it later though. And as is it makes a beautiful flashlight.

Wow... glad to see I'm not the only one still working on this!
I see a lot of people adding lights to theirs though... which was originally in my plans but I got hung up yesterday on drilling a bit of metal, which I thought was about 1/8 thick... ended up being more like 3/4"! I'm still not all the way through it!!:lol
And I second what Risu said... this has to be one of the MOST fun builds I've done in a looooong time! I don't know if it's the fact that everyone's working on it and we're going to compare... or the fact that it's a contest... or just the fact that a custom Sonic Screwdriver of your own design is something that does become personal... not to mention is something that anybody who even kinda likes Doctor Who should have!

Here's a spot of good luck to all of us still slaving away on ours! I hope we all get finished and get the pics in on time!
I hope we don't all crash The Next Doctor's email while trying to send our pics off all at the last minute!:lol

Can't wait to see all these!

I got a lot of work done on mine last night.

So, just need to mount to LED in the emitter, and then close it all up.

Some plans went awry, so it's simpler than I wanted, but it has been fun.

Just finished mine last night! Wow, that was crazy, took days of staring at random parts before my vision took hold, then it came together in night! Can't wait to see the others, this is gonna be so awesome!
