It's nice to be recognized for good work, but I hate competition in a way where one person walks of with the big prize. I don't know why, it just sort of more fun to collaborate. There is something I guess in the favor of competition here because it sets a goal in the deadline and prizes because how many of us would vacillate and keep alternately working and dawdling for months otherwise.

I've never made a prop quite like this, mostly in my past life as a professional photographer I was making props from time to time for photo shoots when something was needed and a real prop couldn't be found. So it's fun in that respect. It takes me out of my dreary life in tech support that I currently am suffering through for the health insurance. I'm three weeks out just having had cataract surgery that the dreary job's health insurance made possible. I've been watching a lot of Who after work now that I'm able to actually see the difference between standard and HDTV for the first time since I've had an HDTV.

I promise I'm having fun, just not daring to get my hopes up for winning. I'll settle for Whovian fellowship and constructive feedback.

fair enough Elvis... I'm all about competition. Prizes or not, I would've still created the same creation that I am working on right now. This is so much fun! I think it's more about the ride personally. That and sharing your creation with the group when we're done. I think once this is done we need to start a "Sonic Contest Comment Thread" for everyone to post their impressions, ideas, etc.

Keep on it man... you never know where voting will go!

well i didnt plan any of mine
it was all junk that just happened to fit together
but i did have fun making it:)

Yea, when the MFX was first announced as a prize I started changing my design because I know there are some people on here that would really hate it just because of what it is. But when the sonics went on sale and I picked one up I decided I'd rather just have fun with it and went back to my original plan.

Mine started the same way... Once I started getting near the end though I had to start planning a bit. There's something wonderfully fun about raiding the junk box and not knowing how it will all go together, and then coming out with a design that truly looks like it belongs.

Let the fun continue!

So here is a funny story, I told my father about the contest and he said "I'm going to enter with a toilet paper tube that has a light bulb in it." But I got mad because in my head I was thinking "well there goes that idea" :p

Ha... that's how I built a Neuralizer when I was in school. I was working at a movie theater when the first MIB came out and we did a promotion. Me and a buddy were dressed in black suits. We went and bought some shiny laser guns at Walmart. But the next day when he showed up with his matte finish tiny neuralizer from Burger King... I whipped out the hottness! Shiny chrome with a window cut for the red led to shine through. It didn't stobe... but it was bright! Oh the fun of it all!

Well I made mine yesterday. It's part machined plastic and found items. But I'm stuck looking for one little piece to finish it up for painting. I hate this. I know what I need, but it's something I haven't been able to make satisfactorily. It all is the fault of me trying to get it to extend. I was going to make a static entry, but got carried away and now I'm determined to finish it.:lol

Here I sit with my box full of stuff...what's the word for 'all this small stuff'? I saw it on here somewhere but my brain is failing me at this moment.....

Anyway I'm having way more fun with this than is probably legal or moral?!?! The possibilities are indeed endless, and it's great just to sit back and pull ideas out of thin air instead of squinting at screen caps and ref pics till your eyes bleed hacking out something SA--though that has it own rewards, but sure gets tedious sometimes.......

Thanks, The Next Doctor, for putting this together!

Just wanted to pop in and make a little post to be absolutely certain that we are solid on that April 15th deadline. I'm getting ready to fly out on a business trip and may or may not have much time for the RPF for a couple of weeks. I won't be photographing my Sonic till I get back as there is still a tiny bit that I have yet to finish.
Anyhow... I hope everyone's build is going well.

I'd venture to say that a good majority of us are more interested in seeing all the different takes on this iconic prop rather than seeing who wins. Don't get me wrong, there are some great prizes... but this has so far remained a very well spirited competition!

Ya know... I went through a hardware lightsaber building phase there for a while and now I'm thinking that I'm starting to get sucked into a hardware Sonic Screwdriver building phase.

What the hell. If the deadline really is April 15th then I'm in too.

I don't know what I'm going to make, I might end up riding the fail bus, but at least I'm going to give it a try.

cool... another custom to stare at! Um... isn't that a sonic in your avatar?

Yeah it's just the standard toy one though. I have two of those, the huge sonic pen, and the River Song sonic which annoyingly has lost one of the four emitters.

Because...um...I tend to carry them both in my coat pocket when out and about.

Me<---geek. ;-)

It's cool, I used to carry the little pen torch and now I carry my MFX. But that's why we're here.
