Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 04-09-2009 - Pics of brass parts are up*

Re: Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 25-6-07*

Will this only be a limited initial run or will it be open for a lot of people? I'm not on the boards as often as I would like and would hate to miss out on this if there are only 20 spots open or something like that. Thanks!

i wouldn't worry about that. When the foundry has made molds, i can order as many as i need :)

Nice, this has been a project that many have watched over the years and we all can't wait to get our hands on it! Very exciting.

Hey Marc,
I'm still working on THAT thing, I'm doing the "engravings" for... That... Thing...
You know... Oh, well, I should have something to show you soon (hopefully, if my PC keep working...):D

:confused Am I missing something? Am I the only one that doesn't know what "THAT thing" is reference to? Is it a secret?..

Re: Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 25-6-07*

Alrighty then....

inner frame and new longer lever (works beautifully) are done, silicone is curing on the plates and fresh resin coming to my house tomorrow. I should have a resin master pretty soon :D

Re: Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 25-6-07*

Finished the molds for the master. I decided to redo the molds last night, this time i had them cure in the pressurepot under 70 PSI. This made sure the silicone molds are perfect and no small airbubbles are in the patterns, screwing up the patterns.

My resin hasn't arrived yet, the Clearcast 202 i ordered along with the regular resin wasn't in yet, so the new ETA for the new resin is Tuesday, can't wait :D

I can then start casting the plates and the coin to make the final master, which by the looks of it is going to look gorgeous. Then i have to wait till the guys from the foundry are back from their holiday, which will be around august the 1st, and i can start talking to them about casting this puppy in brass, weeeeheeeee.

I will start an interrest list as soon as i have the resin master done. This to give me an indication of how many i will need to have made. When i have the first casts from the foundry in hand, i can see how long it takes to clean the pieces up and polish them and assemble the lighters. Final price will be determined then (but expect it to be around $250) and the final interrest list will be drawn up and possibly a deposit will be required at that time, so start saving your pennies :D

I might start doing a run of about 20 resin ones for the people who don't have the money for the brass ones. These will most likely be cast from Task4 resin, which is a stronger resin than the regular resins.

I'll keep you posted,

Marc

That's great!:D
Thanks for the news;)
(yeah, my reply was faster than TimDrakeRobin's one! :lol )

Re: Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 25-6-07*

Marc,

Are you going to do the Task 4 cold-cast brass?

Re: Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 25-6-07*

I think it will prove to be a problem to do so because a metal filled resin becomes very thick. And since there are some very thin lines in the silicone molds (like the letters in the coin) i am affraid it would come out distorted.

You have experience with coldcasting, right? Maybe you can tell me a little more about the do's and don'ts and the possibilities etc?

Cheers,

Marc
