Completely CGI Green Lantern costume

The suit IS a manifestation of the power, it's generated by the ring. Every monkey who's drawn it with seems, fabric pulls, wrinkles, etc... has got it wrong.

Including the guys that created the original golden age Green Lantern? I know you're referring to the silver age and beyond costume but that's the problem with comics... they tend to evolve. Besides, we're just having a light discussion - no need to get vehement about it. ;)

Wrong, the Uniform is a manifestation of the ring but it it still based on the wearers imagination. It would manifest the suit in a way that the wearer would feel familiar and comfortable. That is why each green lantern has a slightly different suit. After they learn to use the ring they can even change the suit to a design they themselves create.

Why not make it look like those 'Walking with Dinosaurs' raptor suits? Can you imagine that?

You know, they might be trying to go with the current look of the "floating" green lantern symbols made of ring light. I would think it would be easier to do reflections and highlights from those as pure CG than to try to do them in post over a practical suit, particularly when combined with multiple morphs into costume as described.

They must have done some tests for proof of concept, and it must have been good enough that they decided to shoot the whole thing with Reynolds in the CG reference suit. If it was only a "we think we can pull it off" I think they would have at least shot everything with a practical suit, just in case?

"Sitting here with my fingers crossed that they can actually pull it off"

Easy boys, I think Hal Jordan is in good hands. Director Martin Cambell knows what he is doing. Didn't anyone see Casino Royale?

The Green Lantern's power is manifested as constructs built from their own thoughts (will power) and IMO is unlike any superhero power done in live action on-screen. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather them CG this... as mentioned it needs to feel alien.

That being said, I wonder what they will start with and how big this film will get. In case anyone's been keeping up with the comics... there is more than just yellow and green rings to play with on one planet.

How the HECK are us fanboys supposed to dress up as the movie GL if the suit is CG?!
Darnet...there goes my Halloween 2011 costume idea....
But the reasons behind doing it that way make sense. I'm still upset though.

If the bar was set by the Dark Knight's Harvey Dent special effects, then it's a very very high bar. In my opinion, Harvey Dent's all digital face was superb. Just flawless.
Still looked weird and rather unrealistic to me. One of the only things that pulled me right out of the movie... big damn CGI blob on half his face.

You could use a laptop and projector, and just stand really still.
