*******************************************************

Nearing completion on my third Solo blaster - the ESB version. Had all the parts but the scope. Rather than spend money on trying to find one, I made my own! You like...?

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Wow! Nice scratch build. I'm slowly picking up parts for a ESB Solo myself. I'm hoping I can eventually find a hollow brass scope like I used to have. I never should have sold it.:cry

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

AWESOME pic! Thanks!

From that I can tell the styrene bad I added on the rear is too wide, and I can easily address that.

I do know that where the narrow end of the cone meets the forward cylinder is too low, which I cannot change at this point. But I think when it is all black and mounted on the gun it would stand out too much.

And yes - "feet" are next!

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Neato! How did you do it?

--I took measurements by extrapolating figures from the MR mini compared to the Denix.

--The two cylinders are dowels, and the cone was from a toy.

--I attached the dowels and cone as a single unit, then smeared it all with Elmer's wood filler.

--Lots of sanding, re-applying filer, sanding again, and general shaping

--The dial on the side was a piece of plastic tube, with some nylon spaces (rings) found at Home Depot

--The small ring on the very front was also nylon spacers

--The front end and the rear end (of the dowls) have styrene discs attached.

--The bands on the front and back are also styrene.

Oh yeah..Me Likes! Nice scope Rob!

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Thanks guys! I'll post more pics as I wrap it up.

May be awhile though -- going in for a minor surgery tomorrow so will be laid up for a week or two...

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

All right I couldn't stand it. I hacked off the front cylinder and relocated it lower! Now it's looking much closer to dead-on.

Pics later...

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Ok... Better?

I still need to fill and blend it in, but I'm MUCH happier!

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Looks Great this is really nice! I want to build one of these blasters where is a good place to get the base gun?

Thanks All

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Thank you! I've filled in a bit where the feet meet the main scope. Pics later...

BTW, did you note how I re-affixed the forward cylinder to better match? I also drilled out the knob on the side to open that up a bit. your pic has been a godsend!

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Yes I did notice. It looks a lot more pleasing to the eye now. :)

If you want detail pics of any particular area do let me know. The scope in the pic I posted belongs to me so I can take any pics you may need.

Oh, I don't know if its the same with every M19 scope, but the one I have don't show the screw heads around the eyepiece, only 3 indentions where your screws are.

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Thanks for the offer on the pics... I think I'm going to try to wrap this up tomorrow though. Final paint finish and call it done.

On the screws, I wondered about that. I am (obviously) using the MR mini as a model, and it shows screws in place (albeit flat-head). At any rate, I do like the additional level of detail. I'm curious if the 1:1 MR has the screws...?

Re: Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Got the final paint job on yesterday - even managed to add texture to the finish by employing a self-imposed orange-peeling technique! need to add the brass weathering, shine up the front and rear caps, add the "lenses" and its done...

Re: COMPLETED Scratch-built Hand ESB blaster scope

Wow, that could almost pass off as a real scope, especially if you don't have a real one to compare to.

Great job!

Now make a bunch and hoist them on eBay! :lol
