Comic Dr Doom mask...

I seriously don't get to spend anywhere near as much time on the RPF as I'd like....sadly some nasty RL stuff has kept me from ths hobby for awhile.

On the plus side, I have finished my first ever mask.....sculpted in clay, then cast using aluminium powders yadda yadda.....

It's only the second thing I've ever sculpted, so please be brutally honest....whadd'ya think?

I think it looks like a real metal mask! Great job man! Not really a comic fan but i like the design and how you pulled it off

Thanks everyone.

I'm quite happy with how the aluminium powder turned out, it has a nice metal feel to it too (which probably sounds stupid seeing as technically it is metal, lol) which is nice given how light it actually it is.

Love it, man! I like the look of your mask a whole lot more than what they did for the movies.

wow really nice.

it looks different than something you would find that's mass produced and has no identity. with this, the way the contours of the mask are, it really has a feel of being forged into a mask shape. looks very very good, such a nice look to it. thumbs up!

the surface does appear to be bumpy, probably due to the mold. However, since it's a "metal" mask, it looks more like the hammer marks from forging it. So...I think it gives it character and really lets it stand out.
Sadly, I don't know how you could have smoothed out the sculpt if that wasn't the look you were going for. But, I think it looks fantastic.

Looks great and is probably better that anything I'll ever do. Lol. Only thing I think is that the lower jaw is a bit wide. But yeah its still great!!!!

dang that looks most awesome! what are aluminum powders? it looks like it's made out of real metal! bravo.

Very nice. I was looking for a mask last year for Halloween, but only found this cheapo vinyl mask that wouldn't hold its shape. Yours would be excellent. Great job on it.

Thanks everyone.

The sculpt was intended to look like a hand forged mask, hence the surface bumps etc.

The aulinium powders are literally just that....aluminium ground down to a fine powder......you dust it into the mould and then pour in a tinted resin. Once it's cured....if you buff the surface the metal shows through - so technically it is actually metal (for approx 0.5mm of the surface at least......:) )

It's comfy to wear, considering it was sculpted on a small head armature and I have a big head, it fits me fine.

The lower Jaw actually kept getting resculpted...it went from ridiculously flared, to narrow, back to square.......it was tough trying to decide how I wanted it to look......in the end I went for a 50/50 mix of classic comic and modern - so, fairly straight lines, but some techno junk added to the cheek recesses etc.
