Combining Talents See Post #160 For Details! Hotttt!

The common thread in all of these should be a landmark or sign showing the various locations worldwide. Also there should be a part near the end of the scene where the predator is walking directly toward the camera focusing on looking directly at the camera. We can tie these all in this way.
I like the theme of a universal predator invasion, that is kind of the way I was thinking about this. Predators are dropping into locations worldwide at one time and are going to basically take over the planet.

These will all be shorts and then tied together. Keep in mind that as an example if we have 50-or more of these that each one will only be a few seconds so as not to have a full length feature film--LOL (Example 50 clips at 15 seconds each =750 seconds=12.5 minutes)
So make sure you send the best stuff you can send so we dont have to do a lot of editing and splicing.

you can send the finished clips to me at eaglewoodtc@gmail.com and put in the subject line Lair Film so I know what it is.

Lets get it going!!!!

I am all over this like stink on ****. I am not doing it until I get my new suit completed. It will be my unveiling.

I am so pumped.

if we wanted to do a cohesive plot, my idea is a planetary invasion by the preds. one giant hunt worldwide. you do several separate stories from the different locations all tied together by dialogue. that way it is not imperative that characters be filmed together, ie lair member in france and in us.

I like this idea. Everyone everywhere would be able to produce whatever they want, and all we'd need is some sort of dialogue from a "global central command center" (perhaps a series of requests for "situation reports") to bridge them all together.

I think it's definitely do-able.

A question about formats:

I think I remember a note that we wanted MPEG format, but what do we wanna do about resolution and screen format? It's probably look best if everybody shoots in the same screen format, but some of us won't have pro or semi-pro equipment, and will be shooting with a plain ole vacation camcorder. So do we want to try to have everyone shoot in 640x480 format, or widescreen? What about high-def?

What's do-able for everyone?

That was an issue I was thinking about as well. The only thing I can think of is doing the movie how xmdray said but maybe doing it documentary style like cloverfield so this way there would be a reason why all the camera's look different.

I am borrowing my buddies HD Video Camera. Go big or go home, do it right the first time.

I am sure if you put up a Facebook request someone you know and trusted would volunteer something better than a VHS Camcorder.

documentary style would work very well for this actually. i am liking this idea more and more.

Lets not forget about the bugs that we have here also.....AVP on a global scale
Yeah
I didnt think we wanted our Hunters just randomly taking out innocents. Make it like we are hunting bugs or just the scum of the earth.
As far as format, i would say use the best resolution you have with what you have available to you. We will make it work.

Since Predators are drawn to heat and conflict, another option would be to make it during WWIII? A global war draws a new threat.

I like the idea of a documentary approach…..Maybe a sector of the film could feature a small grass roots documentary team. The film’s story could be told via their documentation, kind of like with the film ‘District 9’?
Let’s say there are these college kids or some struggling documentary team in need of something fresh, something new to launch their debuted or something.
Problem is everything has already been covered or done a million times…Big foot, Elvis sightings, ghost, area 51.
These guys are desperate and in need of something new. An idea! What about that 1987 encounter Major Dutch had, had in South America? The infamous encounter in which he claimed to have had with a “creature?”
This could be something- as there was never much ever said about it. Most regard it as “Urban Legend” and believe this Dutch is a nut job. But, just what If there is more to this, eh!!!
Let’s say the struggling documentary team gives this a shot. They travel to the 87’ ‘hot spot’ and begin speaking with locals.
The team finds that the locals really do take this “demon who makes trophies of men legend” serious. The team is surprised to here that this legendary creature as been hunting men well before the 87’ and may still be doing so at present. ( a different pred. of course)
The team thinks this is all very fascination but they seem to be getting nothing more than stories…well, that is until one day something very interesting is caught on camera!
The lead guy on the team sends this footage to friends and other investigative teams of similar interest across the globe, detailing them on what to look for. Soon there are investigative teams set up around the globe- each one documenting predator activity in their chosen local.
Just an idea

I have been doing some research. Alot of reading about Do it yourself movie making.

Now I know what we are attempting here is not an actual movie.

BUT we are filming ourselves in costume and I am sure we all can agree we want it to be badass.
So... with a good product you have an even better plan.

Preparation is key with any task. Here is a link to some blank cell storyboards. I plan on plotting out the basics of what I want. That way nothing gets missed.

Self Reliant Film

This is a great idea!...makes things easier to splice together and wont have to worry to much about finding similar looking spots to shoot the scenes....
I think this could actually work very well and there could be quite a few predator suits in the film as apposed to just 4 or 5.
and alot of other members here (since we have members in almost every part of the world) could portray one being interviewed because of a sighting, or an item they found and believe it to belong to this creature!
like what ever happened to P2's hand after Lieutenant Mike Harrigan cut it off with the smart disk?
some one had to find it...or the items he left behind in the old couples bathroom, maybe her grandson kept the items or something...
and also the mines wolf left in the sewer.. some sewer worker had to find them along with xeno body parts!
possibilities are endless!

Estelle you just planted a seed that i think will make this project grow very well!

Self Reliant Film

When it comes to amateur film-making, no one is more "self-reliant" than me---I do absolutely everything myself. I write the script, I make the storyboards, I block out all the shots, I play all the roles, I do all the directing and editing, I do all the FX, I make all the props. (Hence the name "OneMan Productions"). :)

If there's enough interest in it, I'd be happy to do a huntorial on how to make your own fan film, describing the process I use . . .

thanks for the linbk Gene.very interesting stuff.I find it funny to read a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote on the front page after just finishing reading his self reliance essays a few weeks ago per recommendation of our very own Darthpinhead(Brad) .check it out fellas I'm sure a lot of you would like it.

Thank you for your feedback. :) I’m glad you like it. :D It was a spur of the moment thing I came up with after having two ridiculously huge cups of sugar laden coffee..lol. ( …and listening to NPR in the background as I typed)
One of the main purposes behind the idea of my particular “documentary” approach is for the allowance of various film formats to be used with out ‘clashing’ or detracting from the overall film ( with so many contributing to the ‘Lair Film Project,’ I’m sure there is going to be a few differences) - And the way I see it - If we do go this route, the differences will lend a type of ‘authenticity’

This may be a bit far in the future... but is this something we are looking at making a suit or two collaboratively specifically for this film? or are we looking to use our own suits for it?

Regardless... I am willing to travel to be put in the suit for it! I'll spend all day in it! (I've done it before) I can take the beating! haha

Also I was just watching Predator 1 and what about the bio and cannon that he dropped in the water to fight Dutch? Did someone find those things??

This is starting to take a shape here I think. Gene and Estelle-- thanks for all your input as well.
OK-- get those cameras rolling.

I dont think we are going to make a costume specific for this- everyone just use your own or make one for it for yourself!!!

Ok, so lots of ideas are being flung around... if I were to do this... what would need done on my end? Raw footage? Would I need to do the audio? fx? I'd like for it to be high quality... not 10 seconds browsing for sounds and just tossing them in. If I'll be cloaking... I want it to look GOOD! Is that on us? I ask because each video may have a different feel... which is cool. Just trying to get a bearing of what I should do :)

Yeah, I like where this is going.... What about the ancient pyramid from AVP? Could the Mayan calender in this documentary actually be discovered to describe the Hunters return to Earth and not an Apocalypse as portrayed in general media?
