CNC Tutorial Blog for droid builders

Thanks for sharing....will be looking at this with great interest :)

Once this one is complete, probably going to do one on building a Pit Droid Statue. Ive been experimenting with models and such and I am about ready to create some cnc files out of them.... But the R2 will take another month or so to complete. Unless anyone has any other suggestion for a cool prop.... ;)

If you need any measurements for a battledroid let me know , I have a fibreglass one.

Sounds like Battledroid might be it.. Thanks for offering measurements, If I come across a good 3d model, maybe we can adapt it for scale, and I can run the final 3d models by you to check for accuracy.. How does that sound?

Can you post a link to the files themselves? I don't see them?
I am very interested in seeing them!

The links are included in each article. I will try to add a download list of links
when I get near the end. I am taking the night off, and will do some more tomorrow, or monday.

Hey Wes,

Awesome blog - following with great interest. I am just finishing up building my own CNC machine, so great timing ;)

Would LOVE to see a battle droid up next too. I think it lends itself perfectly to being done via CNC.

Well done :thumbsup

Thanks, I Will try to make it as complete as possible. Just Bear with me as I get it there. My goal is to do it completely within a couple months, but the time to stop take pics, blog about how to make the parts makes it a bit slower of a process. But if you have a machine and a complete week of vacation time, you could easily build a droid from styrene and wood, and probably get most of the electronics in as well. :) It doesnt have to take months or years if you have a cnc.

No worries Wes, I can appreciate how much time documenting the process can take. I just think it's awesome that you are taking the time to freely share the info with the community. Kudos.

No problem Wes just LMK.

came across this link for anyone who wants to learn about CNC without much up front investment. thought I would share.

Had a little discrepancy in my leg plans compared to the official ones. I borrowed some Aluminum run legs from a friend and figured it out, anyway, the adjustments have been made for future reference, and now understand what the problem was.

Wes, just curious: have any of the builders made an R2 with a retractable leg?

many people do, but I havent seen it in a styrene droid. The middle foot is removable though, so you could hypothetically put it in 2 leg mode manually for display purposes.

I am sorry to say, I had to remove the droid frame plans from my cnc tutorial site. I had a request from the founder of R2 builders to remove his plans from my tutorials. I have complied. Anyway, we are working on a different set of original plans to replace these. I will get them up as soon as we get them finalized. Anyway, we will have a complete cnc set of droid plans regardless, by the time the blog is finished, fear not.
** rumors** sigh… » CNC and R2D2 - The Ultimate Building Blog I have to respect his request, but I will find another solution, since my view on building a droid is that it should not have to be a Divinci code type thing, it should be out there for anyone to do. kind of like an opensource set of ideals.

What do you mean by Divinci code? If I'm correct, the Divinci code is some sort of big secret, right?

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong....
