CLONE WARS weekly discussion thread

I think George Lucas said almost those exact words in the Revenge of the Sith commentary. That all the Jedi have to die except for Yoda and Obi-Wan.

But not to go into it completely on a forum. They are Jedi. They sense things. Most were in war zones. Jedi don't need to see a gun aimed at them to know something is incoming. I've read too many stories that attempt to explain away the easy death of so many Jedi. And it's only somewhat believable for the poor Jedi or children / younglings.

Honestly, I do the opposite of George Lucas now. If he says only the movies count or something like that. I say only the good stories count. So the original non special editions for me, Rogue One, Solo to some extent, and The Clone Wars comics and episodes that I enjoy, as well as some of the books.

If they want to bring back Darth Maul. Then as far as I'm concerned Aayla, Barriss, and Shaak Ti are still alive. The comic and book versions, not the actors that just stood around in the prequel movies. Mace Windu is still alive too like Samuel Jackson says. He floated down and caught on to a car like Anakin in Attack of the Clones. This is what happens when movies aren't consistent.
I think we could use the Dark Side clouding the Jedi's senses, resulting in them loosing the ability of use the Force. As Maul said the Dark Side had never been stronger.

Anyone interested in the final episode of the old Clone Wars series can watch it here...

Until something comes around to truly contradict it, I personally consider this to be THE definite attack on Coruscant. Same thing with the Plagueis novel.

Also, it's heartbreaking that it's not until the very end that we finally see Rex break down. This man lived through dozens of battles. He saw countless friends and brothers under his command die. He's given them orders that have sent them their death, knowing full well that it was his duty to the Republic to do so. But being left with no alternative but to accept that the institution that gave him reason to live has crumbled before his very eyes, and there is nothing that he can do about it... that is what breaks his resolve.

indeed, and probably why I enjoy his work so much. He is as hard-core of a fan as we are!

I also very much appreciate the respect he has for George.
I agree. He knows who invented this thing.

This has been disney's entire issue since the get go. I was insulted from the first line of The force awakens.

"This is begin to make things right"

To me, after years of hearing how George messed up the franchise with the special editions and the prequels, I took that as a meta-commentary boast by people who were unqualified to make such claims.

So, I haven't posted in here in a while, because I don't generally watch Clone Wars. I like the concept. I have enjoyed watching. But the prevalence of "this week we rescue the fluffy bunny people with the help of friendship" plot lines that pop up regularly enough, always drove me away. For that reason, this is gonna sound a bit like a rant, even though I'm here to say that I did enjoy the ending.

Getting it out of the way: Thing I don't like about the clone wars show.
-Control chip things in their brains: This was a damn shame in my opinion. I always thought it was wonderful in other comics and media, how some clone troopers didn't turn on their jedi generals, because their personal experience, and higher functioning "special forces" logic let them get past the idiocy of it all. the idea that out of absolute uniformity, you could still develop these unique and wonderful characters, some that would stay loyal to the empire through their training and dedication, and others that would turn on the empire for the very same reasons, was beautiful. But nope. "iz r0bo-chip in der BR4INZ!". It just really hollows out the potential depth of the characters to me.
-Asoka surviving the clone wars: when the character first showed up in the show back in the day, she was set up perfectly to be the representation of anakin's fall, when she would almost certainly perish at the hands of her master. A reminder of how utterly gone Anakin was.

Now, those contentious statements aside, I really enjoyed the little 4 part ending they came up with for the show. Seeing the Mandalorians get back to being Mandalorians was great. Seeing Maul on the ship at the end was outstanding, as was seeing him kind of snapped over the vision he received, since it was not normal for him. I could really see him coming out of the situation having become a more introspective character, that I could easily see ending up in control of one of the greatest criminal organizations the galaxy would see. The animation and voice acting seemed better than even the episodes I'd seen in the rest of that final season when I popped them open occasionally. And seeing the Storm Troopers was excellent.

A good ending to the series.

You'd think if it was as easy as a 20 second operation to remove the chip and foil Sidious' plans... he would have put in a failsafe that kills any clone who has the chip removed..

Would be no need to do that. The chip was common knowledge and known to be a behavioural control over the clones, and was doing its job. It was the existence of Order 66 that wasn't known or discovered in any way until Fives' malfunctioned.

Actually, not true. Syfodias and those Jedi directly involved with the cloning project later were the only ones who really knew about it. Order 66 was out there in the open the whole time (GENERAL ORDER 66, as in general guidance/knowledge), but of course the Jedi would NEVER betray the Republic, so it was considered a non-issue.

When Fives' chip malfunctioned, that's when it became somewhat wider known, but it was still clamped down on pretty hard (which is why Rex's protest of Fives' records was secured as it was).

Well, I guess I will throw my 2 cents in here. I've never been into TCW, lost interest after about the 2nd season. I've occasionally caught an episode here and there, nothing ever really captured my attention. But, I've been keeping up with this thread for awhile now and reading all the comments for this season, so I decided I would give it a chance since you guys were all talking about it tying into E3.

First 8 episodes seemed like standard TCW stuff to me--ho hum....Didn't care for the Bad Batch, Wrecker was so cringe worthingly overblown. I liked the sisters stuff better, but the way they tricked their way into getting that replacement shipment of spice was ridiculous. Who would put someone that stupid in charge of something so valuable? But, I knew I had to get to the last 4 episodes so I sat through it all.

However, I will have to say, once it got to the ninth episode it kicked in, and really kicked in hard!! I thoroughly enjoyed those last four!! Very well done and a good ending to the series. Like I said, I was never really interested in the show, but I gotta give props where props is due... Good job!!
