Claptrap

Thanks, ZacMuleer! Well, I'm still debating on what I want for the base. That will affect how it will stand up.

Initially, I was thinking a clear rod through the center of the tire up through the bottom of the figure. The wheel struts would kind of hide the clear rod to achieve the effect of a self balancing robot.
Theres a port on the lower backside of the figure. I've also played with the idea of including an optional open port. It would be neat to have the port open as a receptacle for a rod.....to make it seem like that was what the port was intended for....my weird sense of humor, huh?

All in all, I'm going for something that isn't so obvious of a stand.

Also, I'm thinking of what extras I want to include. Maybe a separate mini-kit consisting of a toilet, locker, safe, wads of money, a shield generator, box of ammo and maybe a rifle.

I'm also considering a bounty board and possibly a New-U pole for the base. Although they would take up a lot of space. I haven't done the exact math but a New-U pole would probably be about 2-3 feet tall! Not sure if that's what people would want.

BUT...before I get into all that in more detail....I'll start an official interest thread to pin point what people would want in a kit.

Just a quick little story. I bought the game for my 11 year old son at the time. We game together and he wanted me to go first. Right at the beginning of the game when you meet CTrap, I found myself lost in exploring every angle of the robot! I must have studied him for about 20 minutes or so...my son ever patient until finally he quietly asked, "Um, dad, are you going to play the game?" We started cracking up! He knows how big of a dork I am for building robots and he immediately asked if I could build him one....fast forward to current day. It's been a long, slow process but worth it!

Oh and I thought I would post early progress of a couple of parts for the red, foul-mouthed punk version. The small one is the bracelet saw.

I'm still looking for a caster. Once I get settled into this new house the hunt for one will begin again. Thanks for asking, I appreciate the interest still!!

The project really is incredible. I know at least a dozen people who would be interested in owning their own claptrap.

If you don't finish I will have to start one of my own... this is too exciting!

Thanks guys! I am determined to get this done. I'm all moved in so I'm going to start making calls and looking for a caster!

I was going to ask where you got the wheels as I need a pair for a project i'm planning but then i saw you made them. I guarantee i couldn't manage anything that cool.

Awesome work!!! :)
makes me want to get back to working on the 1:1 version I had started creating in CAD a while ago :)

Guys, thanks for all your support. I'm getting fed up with looking for a caster. I'm going to look at casting this thing myself! I'm a stickler for quality so you can rest assured that it will be the best it can....rotocast and all.

OK, seeing this build got me jonesing so bad I violated my unwritten rule against buying from price-gougers and tracked down a Neca Claptrap and paid $30--just to tide me over until your kit is ready.

I've justified the Neca purchase by telling myself I'm giving it to my 10 year old daughter for Christmas; she LOVES Claptrap! Still, it's only a shadow of a figure compared to your build...

And I don't have to justify the cost for your kit. It's all mine! Heh.

JD, if that ain't justification to move my butt! I wouldn't want you or your daughter not to have a Claptrap. Thanks all for the interest still! This will happen!

Just thought I'd drop an update. It's still moving...slowly....but coming along. The three part mold for the body is new to me but it'll work in the end. Hope you like it!
