Claptrap

Thanks!

You know, I stayed in the first area right after exiting the bus for a long time when I first played it. I couldn't stop examining that funny little robot! My son finally asked why I wouldn't move on with the game. I was like "Oh, yeah, right"! He gets a kick that I'm building him now.

Every time I go past he's doing something different but he seems to like to beat box a lot. Tell you what some of the residence of that planet make the back woods of Deliverance look like NYC lol.

Sometimes, if your cross-hairs are on him, he'll start shaking and cowering, and cry, "Don't shoot me! Don't shoot me!"

Im an uber fan of borderlands. was considering doing a bandit mask when im done on my current project. Loving how this is coming along and looking forward to the end result.

Cool, I love the clap traps in Borderlands, I think it's the way they all sound a bit like Gir from Invader Zim.

I had to put this on hold for a few weeks due to some important reasons. I left off at the point of filling the master body.

As you can see, I tried filling with resin before realizing that the arm box side-walls were bowing in at a slight angle making it difficult for the parts that go in it to fit properly.

I ended up having to tear some of the body apart in order to get the chunk of resin out.

I fixed the arm boxes and decided to use foam instead to fill the master.

Then I shaved off the excess. It's now ready for the top plate that will close off the master. I'm looking at having this rotary cast for a hollow center to allow for electronics.

After the top plate goes on, I'll begin body work and then start adding the details. More to come later....

Quick update.....

I closed up the top and sealed the seams. I've made more progress since I took this picture so the edges were further cleaned up and squared.

I also installed the side bumpers.

Things have been moving slowly due to some major re-works but things should start to pick up.

I'm currently adding detail to the body.

Initially, I wasn't trying to be 100% accurate and while it won't be 100%, I'm slowly converting parts I'm not happy with to make them as accurate as possible.

For example, my first center chest plate was not rounded out like the video game model.

BEFORE...

...AFTER...along with the drawer and whatever that thing is below it. I also added some of the bits. I haven't added what I call the collars since I'm still lining up the decal drawings to make sure everything stays straight.

...the collar I was talking about...

...back shot....what I have so far...

Thanks for looking....

Here's an update my progress...I've been working on the shoulder flap. It's made up of 15 small bits and pieces so far. It should only need a few more parts and some minor scribing before being complete. I seriously thought it was just a flat piece when I first started this project. Closer looks at my ref proved otherwise! :eek

Claptrap has just been confirmed to be in Borderlands 2, but so far no art has been released on him yet. I hope they don't change him. He's perfect the way he looks.

Yeah, I hope they don't change his appearance too much.

As far as those videos, yeah, they are cool. I've actually used them for reference as I've found certain angles that I couldn't see in photos ref.

I appreciate you guys checking this out. I should have some more free time starting next week. I'll definitely spend more time on it.

Here's the latest and greatest....the top head plate so far. I haven't added the antenna and a few details. The head plate will be a separate piece so that you can add electronics in the body and still access. Also, the seams still need to be filled and smoothed out. I also didn't align the plate very well for the last pic which is why it looks off. Things have been slow.....getting close!
