christmas eve on sesame street...

you know, it's amazing to be reminded what an institution the muppets and sesame street where back when jim was alive. EVERYONE, adult and kid alike looked forward to waht he did next because the specials had heart, and technical wonders attached to them. it used to be big moments when the street cast would leave and go on vacation, like visiting Maria's home country.

any time I Want to be transported to a simpler time, when the world was a bit saner, I pop this special in and wish things didn't change for the worst as much.

It's also kind of sad to see how lost the muppets have been without jim there to guide them. everything they've done since, minus perhaps Muppet Christmas Carol, and the last muppet movie, has fallen kind of flat and relied way too much on nostalgia to be any good.

I think the best thing henson has done in years was that lifetime thanksgiving special with mary steenburgen aired this november. that felt like they recaptured a little of the old magic.

This is the golden age of Sesame Street before they got all preachy and pushing agendas, now the show is like an indoctrination tool.

I havn't had reason to be anywhere near pbs since early 90s at best. occasoinally I will flip across it and stay on it a bit. the skits are no longer funny. they get the basic message across and that's it. the parodies they do are even goofier. the one liners are gone replaced with basic lessons only. the only laughs come from seeing the muppets mimick the popular movies.

When they realize what an easy marketing tool they had with elmo, they didn't even have to try anymore. they just stopped trying...

The only time i watch PBS is when WQED out of Pittsburgh has their locally made cookie shows and documentaries but now PBS in general has been getting content off them and it's caused them to water it down more for non-locals. Growing up it was on all the time even when i was in bed my folks were watching shows.
