OK, so this thing started life as this:
Your standard ebay cheapo! It's kind of funny, because the entire top of the gun slides back to load the BB. But the cool thing was that the barrel comes right off.
Anyway, I started with weathering and texturizing the grips before painting.
Shortly after that I began "nicking" the grips to give them some character. I scraped and rounded any sharp details off the grips.
Gotta say, that's my favorite exacto tip for prop work. It's also very good at getting those pesky resin drips out of creases in gun castings.
Anyway, onto to painting. First I layered on some brown that I watered down just slightly. It darkeded the scratches perfectly.
then I used a mettalic translucent black to weather the nicks, and add a nice layer of "used grips" over the clean black.
That was a lot of fun.
Then I moved on to the gun itself. I didn't take any pictures of the actual painting, just forgot. But I knew I wanted to give it a pitted brass/goldish type of look. I ended up grabbing the Dupli-color chromeGOLD and "misting" the paint over the gun.
I'm fairly happy with the effect. The pics don't really show the pitted-ness of it hahaha. That a word? "pitted-ness"? NO!
And here she is with the new barrel.
The silver weathering was done with a sharpie silver paint pen. LOVE those things for weathering!
I think I'm going in a steampunk direction with this one. I've been digging through the greeblies looking for a steam tank, and some stuff to add to the sides. I'll probably add a leather string to the bottom of the grip instead of a lanyard ring, maybe both.
And I'm mulling over adding a scope, but I don't want to get too "star wars" so maybe a brass or bronze scope of some kind.
Anyway, mostly just wanted to throw out to everyone that picking up one of the $12 airsoft mausers is worth it if you're converting it to somehting else. They aren't worth it if you're looking for an airsoft gun though. :unsure
More pics as the project progresses! Thanks for looking.
