Cheap Terminator Endoskull - build

I picked up a very cheap Terminator endoskull from the 'bay in February. While not really SA, most of the detail was pretty clean but the overall cast was slightly warped, the bottom jaw was broken in half (and re-glued together) and it was missing the eye pieces - ALL of which I knew about - hence the price.

I've always figured on acquiring a Sideshow endoskull but I knew I was just going to trash it to make it look old, so instead of screwing up a $800.00 model this seemed to present the perfect solution...

Taking some inspiration from the skull in Spidey7's thread (http://www.therpf.com/f9/lemonade-lemons-holy-s-t-look-endoskull-64145/), I liked the idea of a war-damaged skull and missing the eye, meant I only needed to scratch-build one of the missing pieces instead of two. I left off the snapped lower jaw on purpose..

Primed with black and painted using aluminium silver, overworked with matt black in the region of the damaged eye and top of the head. I used Rub 'n Buff Silver Leaf and applied crushed graphite to the burnt and damaged pieces. The chips and flaking were painted by hand.

Cheers for looking

Very cool! You can pick it up and tell friends "I picked this up after a battle in.....uh.... I mean....I bought this on Ebay. Yeah, Ebay....."

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

i like it. I need to watch for damaged items like that for sale on there lol.

That looks fantastic ,good job ,nice to see something creative ,like that ,good choice on painting it,makes it look like it got the s*** blown out of it.......

Love it.
I bought a cheap vinyl skull a year or so back, but was never very happy with it. Loads of work to get it looking acceptable.
This idea solves all those problems and results in a unique piece. You've shown me the way, many thanks.

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

great skills, I wish I could do something ike that...

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

I like it. I have a vinyl kit that if I ever get to I'm thinking of a battle damaged version, with cables and wires out the neck and the like. Thanks for more inspiration.

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

Excellent idea :)
I have two skulls, I may do something similar with one of them.
How'd you build the eye?

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

It looks really great! I think I like this look compared to the really shiny ones. A battle damaged one does give it more character.

If you don't mind a suggestion, maybe you could add more bullet dents / marks on the front of the skull. If it has been in a fight, there's no doubt it would've been hit from the front too.

Re: Cheap Endoskull - build

Cheers all.. I appreciate the kind comments!

As some of you know I generally don't opt for a 'usual' solution to the props I build and sometimes inspiration comes from the most unexpected quarters (as it did in this case via Spidey7). We have seen dozens of interpretations of iconic props that ALL tend to end up looking the same. In the end, why not extend the concept and have your own a little different?

I'm very happy this build might in turn give others ideas because while it may not be SA it hopefully extends the franchise from an entirely different point of view.

@Reverend Scapegoat - The eye was made out of plastic, plastic rods, small metal pieces and ball-bearings. Luckily, I had a round plastic bead that I had stored away that was the perfect size for the eye-ball. The iris is not actually glowing (even though it looks that way) its a bright red plastic disc glued to the back of a clear, semi-circular kitchen cupboard stopper. Again, these were luckily, the perfect size for the job.

@Fenris - Cheers for the suggestion. I deliberately didn't put bullet holes in the front because there is a lot of detail there already. Logic tells me that he should have holes all over the place but logic tells me equally that his eye was actually blown out by an impeccably aimed particle beam…
Actually, that's all BS :love. I just didn't want it ending up looking overworked and contrived..

Kind regards and thanks again..

I love the two bullet dents in the back of the head!

I really love the "dull" finish and the worn feeling to it! I think I might go with something like that for my endo eventually! :)
