I was in Five Below today and came across a bit of a cool little toy. They had some cheap knock-off cross guard sabers with light and sound for $4. The hilt itself was unremarkable, with very little detail. The blades were, of course, a bit short, but they were clear plastic the same approximate diameter as an ultimate fx blade and use clear cellophane to diffuse the light of the LEDs. Before you point it out, clearly they aren't going to be adequately bright, but of the red and blue colors they come in, the red was somewhat dimmer.
The startup function was good in terms of both sound and the cross guard blades lighting up after the main blade. The sound was good too, and while it's on, it "crackles" in a manner reminiscent of the Kylo Ren saber. Curiously, the power down sound is like the effect used in the Big Bang Theory where Howard powers down the Luke ROTJ saber.
If you're looking for a quality saber, well, this ain't it. If you want something fun to swing around, give to the kid, or take to the TFA premiere and you won't mind getting broken, this is just the ticket. I grabbed a blue one and will likely have it with me for the midnight show. Or maybe just have it for fun around the house. Highly recommended.
