Celebrity jerks?

Interesting to see Billie Joe Armstrong made a jerk list. I've never personally seen him around town, but everyone I know in Berkeley who has run into him (usually at the burrito place!) have said good things. Tim Armstrong (no relation) too.

The most pleasant "celebs" I have met to date are:

Craig Parker (LotR/Legend of the Seeker) : Funny, sweet and an all-around great guy!

Mark Singer (V/Beast Master) : Will go out of his way to shake your hand and tell you how great your costumes are. My boyfriend and I were walking around the Dragon*Con Hall of Fame a few years ago in our 'Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest' costumes, and my boyfriend decided to go talk to him, since he's a huge original 'V' fan. He got up, walked around his table and just started shaking our hands, profusely. Saying: "Oh movie quality costumes guys! This is unbelievable! I love seeing all you guys in your costumes!"

Doug Jones (Abe Sabien/Pan from 'Pan's Labyrinth', etc): He's a big hugger! He loves to bring everyone in for a hug...he loves to wrap his HUGE hands around your head though o_O. He hung out with us for a LONG time, Sunday night of Dragon*con 2009. We were having an informal party in the Marriott lobby, and he and his manager just popped a squat with us, since he knew a friend of ours, and just started talking!

Sean Astin (Samwise, 'Goonies') : Went out of his way to talk to a friend of mine that has ALS. He was sweet, calm and funny. His handler at Dragon*con 08, was not -_-. Total beotch. But she was also the handler for a few Harry Potter guests, in previous years, and I've heard horror stories about her. Sean Astin wanted to give my friend with ALS a free photo, and the girl turned, gave him an evil look and mouthed "get the money." Evil.

Morena Baccarin - ('V', 'Firefly') : Really sweet! Saw my boyfriend and I dressed as Belle and Prince Adam from 'Beauty and the Beast' and exclaimed: "THAT IS SO CUTE! I love Beauty and the Beast!' and waved to us.

I've run into a few jerks as well. John Noble from 'Fringe' and LotR is a perv. I've heard stories about him grabbing girl's butts and other parts -_-. The guy that plays Lex Luthor on 'Smallville'...totally forgot his name...he's not very friendly at all. Especially if you ask for a pic when he walks by at a con. Very rude. Lou Ferrigno is always at Dragon*con, sitting in a big chair in the Hall of Fame, looking like he owns the damn place. He's inconsiderate and rude. There's been countless other rude celebs, I just can't remember what their names were, and for good reason -_-.

Hey guys I just made a pretty hysterical discovery...

If you start typing Lou Ferrigno's name in Google, one of the first suggested searches that comes up is "Lou Ferrigno deaf".

Why is that funny? He is deaf and does a lot of work for the hearing impaired.

Any stories about this guy?

I taught his mother traditional Japanese painting. She was a mean old lady and it took her a very long time to warm up to any males taking my class (including myself).
Mr. Busey came in one time to pick her up (he was in town) and though everybody knew who he was you would have never thought he was any type of "celebrity". He himself was very quiet and pleasant.

My experiences have all been great.

I'm a huge 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978) fan and got to meet almost everyone from the movie sever al times.

loved reading your post. big dawn fan myself. so is my director, on the zombie film im working on. i think the project came about through a shared love for romero.

i know tom savini through a friend and having spent time with him i can see why some people might get the wrong idea about him. he can come off as a bit 'funny' if he is feeling shy or has something on his mind, as other people on this thread seem to have experienced. but it sounds like you met the tom i know, glad to hear a positive story!

nice to hear that theyre all so nice and down to earth. my friend has met all of them, including gaylen and fly boy, his real name escapes me... id love to have been able to chat to ken and george like you did!

James Hetfield- would not speak & shot me a very evil look for just asking him if he would please pose for a photo on two separate occasions.(Metallica)
I was so disappointed. :thumbsdown
I've met James several times in person. While he's a quiet person, he's always been quite friendly - now granted, I met him in very hospitable conditions - at backstage meet and greets ...and also with mutual friends (at the band hotel).

I met Brad Garret (Robert from everybody loves Raymond) at the hard rock in tampa. He was doing a stand up deal there. Anyway, I saw him at one of the bars and he was with his crew in their own little roped off area. I asked one of his handlers to ask him if I could say hi. So he go over and asks Brad and he looks up and says "yeah, cmon' over" and give me a wave. I go over and chat with him for a little bit and we talked about poker and various other stuff. He's the nicest guy... Seems to love his fans and it was super nice of him to let me in with his crew to talk to him.

I was actually with my parents and my god parents, who saw his show that night. We were all pretty much drunk and I told them I was going to ask to speak to him. They didn't want me to bother him but I just had to talk to him for some reason :lol Afterward everyone I was with was like "damn you... I would love to talk to him". My parents are HUGE fans of the show so they were pretty jealous.

I saw him doing that! I was waiting to talk to some other celebrity, but was fascinated watching Jones. He'd talk to a fan, sign an autograph, then come around the table and hug them. Very friendly in a weird way. Or weird in a friendly way.

He was a good type of weird! Very appreciative, warm and welcoming! My boyfriend shocked him by saying: "Loved you as the main clown goon in 'Batman Returns'!" He was all "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" LOL! Then they talked skinny-man jeans, since my boyfriend and him are tall and skinny.

He's just a really different sort of person. You don't see anyone like him; someone that will hug EVERYONE he meets and treat them so eloquently.

Yeah, I didn't have a clue about this. I read through this entire thread last night and remembered several people making joking remarks about how he seemed to pretend he couldn't hear them and wondering if he was deaf or just ignoring them. Maybe I was remembering posts about a different person in this thread :unsure but it doesn't matter so I'm not going to go back through 12 pages again...

At any rate yeah, I didn't have any idea, I just found what I thought to be a very funny and coincidental connection. Whoops!

He had a massive brain trauma. Makes sense that he would have irratic behavior.

The general consensus among people who know him seems to be that he was pretty darn crazy before his accident and that it really didn't change his personality all that much. But who knows.

I'm just sure he would make for some interesting encounters...

M. Emmet Walsh lives in the town next to mine, Swanton Vermont, and I see him in the local stores from time to time. My mother told me when I was young(er) he was actually good friends with my grandfather, so one day I used that as a conversation starter when we crossed paths. He shook my hand, and spoke fondly of my grandfather. At no point did we talk about his acting career, which I'm guessing for him was a refreshing change of pace. Easily one of the nicest guys I've met, celebrity or not.

On the other side of the spectrum...

I encountered Christopher Llyod when he was touring around Vermont preforming Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. The play came to my college and at the time I was working in the theater. The night of the show, one of the people from the play's production team showed up before Christopher arrived, and told all of us we were not to speak to Mr.Llyod unless spoken to, approach him, or make eye contact with him. If we were spoken to we were to do as he asked and not start a conversation with him.

A guy on the crew decided to disobey these orders, and did the worst possible thing. He snuck on of those Diamond Select Time Machines back stage and with a sharpie, approached Christopher before the show and asked him to autograph it. Allegedly Christopher glared at the kid, and stormed back into his dressing room. The result? The show was almost cancelled and the kid was fired from working the theater crew.

I can't say I blame him, it was a major breach of professionalism on the theater guy's part. But at least that didn't stop Christopher from delivering a great performance that night.

Oh, and my High School band teacher was in Wicked Lester, the band that would go on to become KISS.

Biggest Jerk I ever met at a SW convention was Jake Lloyd which surprised me considering his one hit wonder of a career. He had a hand written sign above his auto table that said no photographs, one was taken (no flash from across the room) he spots the photographer, jumps up (nobody at his table), runs over and asks for the camera looks at the photos to make sure it's been deleted. I mean for real???

Dave :)

Simon Pegg was fantastic to the crowd and people at Supanova in Melbourne last month. Chatted, signed things, was pleasant and great. When he tells you he is "one of you (Sci-Fi fan)" he means it and acts the part.

i can kind of get where the christopher lloyd thing came from.

if you were in a touring show - working - and they didnt specify that you cant talk to him, EVERYONE would find an excuse to approach him.

it was probably just easier to say no one talk to him or approach him - if he cant do for all, he isnt doing for any. and from my own point of view if i was about to walk out on stage or similar, and someone approached me to be a fanboy id struggle not to leg it back to my dressing room.

most artists/famous people ive met or worked with or for have always had a set time for fans policy. if im working, im working sort of thing.

And I hate to burst everyone bubble here but i've written it here before - one of the - if not the biggest A-HOLE I have ever met has to be Michael J Fox - the guy is a total jerk - imagine someone with a Napoleon complex with money and a bad attitude. total knob

Sorry for dragging this post up from the depths, but just had to comment. Apparently alot of people (both cast, crew, and extras) he has worked with in the past have found him to be both rude and aloof. He keeps to himself and often ignores people when they are trying to just extend basic curtosies to him.

However this is not because he is a bad person. Its because of his parkinsons. Some of the symptoms that he faces with include rigidity of movment, poor balance, reduced facial expression, mild slowness of brain processing. All these added up result in someone that appears to be in a bad mood and deliberatly ignoring you. As he explained in his book, when someone walks by him in the hall and is dismayed when thier morning greeting is returned by him coldly walking by, its not becuase he is a bad person but rather is so focused on the intnese effort of putting one foot in front of the other without tripping that he sometimes doesn't notice other things around him. Not to mention the fact that some days he just doesn't have the coordination to do something as simple as walk while rasing a hand to wave and say "hi".
