Ultimately (as you've already discovered) you don't really save any money doing it yourself vs. buying a kit. But, it's much more fun to do it this way
Stormtrooper, hello again. Couple more quick questions....can I use 1/4" creft foam to seal the face opening and would plasticine work to seal around the hot glued foam? Also, can I make the silicone mold one piece....does it stretch enough, without tearing, without having to make it two pieces, to get it off ?:confused
I always do 1 piece molds. They don't last as long as 2 piece due to the increased stress on the material, but as long as you use a silicone with good elasticity like the rebound 25 it works out fine.
I've never tried craft foam so I can't say anything there.
You can use clay so long as it doesn't contain sulphur. If the clay has sulphur the silicone will never cure.
Thanks, since I'm using a different brand, I'll be taking my chances. I knew about the sulphur issue but didn't think about using it with the foam to seal the seams. I do have an epoxy material designed to make foam hard coated ,I could try. Mmmm..sucks to experiment to this degree, but I have little choice.:unsure
