Captain Jack Sparrow Compass

Hi guys,

Been working on a next level compass, here are some updates regarding the new compass...
This time I’m using all brass parts and Meranti wood, kind of a challenge...It’ll be the compass from the curse of the black pearl, I like the bigger sundial over the smaller one, but I might build more...

That looks really good.
What did you use to cut your brass parts? They have a great antique, hand-made quality to them.
A variety of tool, mostly the proxxon mf70 but saws and stuff, have to engrave it by hand as well, so far from finished, but it does have on old feel to it..

Minor update on the brass lining on the lid, pretty much work which I kind of underestimated...

Dude, this is great! Is the dome leather or something? I always thought in the movie it was supposed to be part of the wood, but it’d make sense if it was, much easier to mold/wouldn’t hurt the dial

I’ve made the dome from a tennisball, most easy and properly scaled to the compass, inside the compass lid there is leather now, just haven’t got a photo yet, I really like where this one is going and I will finish the whole thing with epoxy...

That’s hilarious but if it works, it works, right? Love that idea. It’d be cool to do one with a 12-13 ounce leather cup, that could be really solid, but would probably be so hard to mold, you’d probably have to do like 20 passes of wet molding to get it there and make it look good.

It seems to work, to make it fully like it used to be I should probably go for a wooden dome, don’t have the equipment for that unfortunately...
