Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Post-release)

The movies aren't set in the Ultimate Universe and not the "regular" 616 Marvel Comics Universe.... they're a separate beast altogether.

This is correct. Mainstream Marvel Universe is Earth-616, Ultimates is Earth-1610, and the Cinematic Universe is Earth-199999.

Late to this thread because I watched it last night.

I must say this film is my favorite interpretation of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington ever done.
I mean that as a sincere compliment.

A chilling idea just came to me.
Forgive me if it's not an original thought. I wouldn't be surprised if has already been brought up.

With Winter Soldier really establishing Steve Roger's moral foundation as he recognizes the danger of individual rights sacrificed in the interest of national (terrestrial?) security.
On the other hand we have Tony Stark continuing to advance technology in the interest of peace...

It seems Marvel is setting the groundwork for the future Civil War storyline.
It is also perfect for Joss who relishes in killing characters. Civil War would be a Joss massacre.

Finally saw this the other night.

I think this is my favorite Marvel Studios movie. Really well done, thought Evans and Scarlett had great chemistry together and I liked Anthony Mackie as Falcon.
I also liked Henry Jackman's score, fit the movie well.

How old do we think Nick Fury is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

I agree that Civil War would fit well into the Cap Ironman relationship but Marvel would have to go on a rights buying spree.

The last Marvel I read was the Civil War series, up to 12 I think, the last thing I read was Cap getting shot! If they brought the civil war into the story line it might just convert me to a fan.
Everything I've read here is making me want to see this. :cool:thumbsup

I highly doubt Sony nor Fox will give their rights up. Pretty much the reason why I don't think there will be a Civil War storyline that will follow the comic version faithfully. Particularly how important certain parts were like Spider-Man revealing his identity to the world and the significant roles the X-Men and FF played.

If Marvel ever does pursue the Civil War storyline it won't be until Phase 4 or 5 or perhaps even later. And they'd do it without Spider-Man, X-Men, and FF. They're building up their MCU library with other characters like Ant-Man and Dr Strange, at some point down the road they'll have enough cinematic properties to do CW with what they have.

Marvel Studios is going to plan ahead with the assumption that Fox and Sony will never give the rights back.

They very well could do a Civil War movie, but for the love of God, I hope they never do. That story is still the worst summer 'event' Marvel has ever done, in my opinion, and I quit reading Marvel for years because of all the crap it led to.

It took a lot of plot-contrived stupidity to get that story going in the comic, and I think it would take even more to swing it in a movie. Can you imagine Iron Man siding with the government after finding out SHIELD assassinated his parents?

They haven't introduced the Skrulls yet though. Didn't that end up being a major part of that story or am I mixing it up with another one?

I'd love to see a World War Hulk movie myself.

SO go see it! The only thing that I considered close to a disappointment would be a spoiler.

Marvel could make Civil War without the X men, but not without Spiderman or the Punisher.
Also need Stark, for the end justifies the means vs Caps stand for principle and rights.

The story wouldn't and couldn't follow the comics for the reasons everyone has already pointed out... plus the fact that no Marvel movie yet has mirrored the comics.

This is exactly where I'm coming from.

There's no doubt in my mind they're setting the stage for this. And smartly, they're taking their time. This also explains the mad dash to get so many new series (e.g. Hells Kitchen stories) in play. I wondered why Marvel/Joss were doing this as it risks oversaturating the genre. Joss is smart enough and savvy enough to understand this pitfall. After Winter Soldier it all makes sense.

At the end with Agent Hill working for Stark just solidified it for me.

Another insane possimbility might be for Disney, Fox and Sony to negotiate jointly about crossing over ... it would be a huge logistic and creative beast, but it's gotta be on the table at least. Nowadays anything seems possible.

Wait what? I must have missed the Hill/Stark thing?

Isn't Disney like the Umbrella Corporation? Couldn't they just buy the rights back from Fox and Sony... or systematically kill the executive board of each company and replace them with animatronic doubles?

in that post-shield montage where you see characters migrating to other agencies there's a moment where you see Hill at Stark Industries.

Oh ok. Yeah I remember that now. She was dolled up... looked kind of secretary-ish, right?

It's an insane possibility because it'd never happen. How do you address creative differences given they're all in their own cinematic universes with their own creative heads, producers & etc? How do you allocate revenues across 3 studios? Can you quantify with any degree of confidence what share of box office is attributed to the Avengers vs Spider-Man vs X-Men? What about cost sharing for production and marketing? People talk about such a crossover 'cuz they like the idea, but underneath there's just too much to overcome to make this a reality.

Also think about this from a studio head's perspective - if I take the Avengers and add in Spider-Man and X-Men, does that really give me a $3B movie? Of course not, unless you believe the same people will go to the movies 2-3x more often than they would for the Avengers alone. The studios would probably save money on production and post-production overhead, but their biggest cost will be the actors and their pay doesn't get smaller so the cost synergies are not going to be significant. So if the sum of parts is less than each individual franchise, why go through all that trouble for a smaller return?
