been lurking for a while but decided this morning to just jump in. Name is mal, 26, GA I like walks on secluded beaches and a box of merlot by a trashcan fire...... ANYWHO
I wanted to make a cap shield out of a heavy guage steel, thicker than the MR or factory X ones. I have experience in metal fab but anyone who has ever beat a panel or shaped a piece of cold rolled will tell you, a uniform dish that is even and matching on all sides is about as easy to pull off as one of those bob ross paintings in the 30 mins he's on. Now if you have a power hammer of anykind it makes the happy little trees easier to do but here is my first Idea using a 50gal oil drum, some stacked metal weights. using the heat from an oxy/act torch from underneath heating the steel blank starting at the edges in an inward spiraling motion and let the weight of the metal plates pull the expanding metal downward....... attached is a crude drawing of the method, any thoughts?
