Wow, now i see this I totally have to do this to mine...still haven't put my shield together. Happy I waited now, great idea.

Any tips on how you did this, I'm guessing a sewing machine?

I had the folks at Tandy Leather show me how to (slowly) do the stitching by hand.

I added some more detailing to the brackets to give it an armored look - very tedious but looks more accurate I hope.

That reminds me, I was checking out my local Tandy Leather the other day, and saw a set of needles (also available online here) for $4.50. However, there's also a set of needles available here for just $0.85.

Assuming the quality is the same, if others in this thread are looking to try with leather and follow your excellent work, these needles are significantly cheaper. I'll try to remember to post pictures and impressions when mine arrive.

Thanks, Thickness on the brackets is 0.062". Thickness on the clips and mounts is 0.125".
