"Captain America, how exciting!" TWS TFA Rescue USO and Ultimates WW2

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

The Captain Pac Man was cool, lol. That shield does look fantastic, and the suit is coming along nicely! Sorry to hear about the goggles for your WW2 Ultimate Cap gear, though :/

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Thanks, yeah, it sucked.... now I have to decide buy the same goggles or different and make a new leather helmet... But with a TFA suit I doubt there will be many more Ultimates requests.

Also, I figured out what did in the lower buckle. It busted when I sat down. The whole thing is full of cracks...no way to repair it. That is what I get for not putting metal and fiberglass in it like the star buckle.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Going to rewind the clock to the TFA Rescue Uniform.

For those that have a ground helmet and want to convert it to an airborne helmet, need to buy this kit or something similar.

https://www.atthefrontshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=USHHPHKP

Here is the cheating way first. Just insert the A yokes that attach to the leather chin cup between the liner and the helmet.

The leather liner chin strap, "the strap on the front", attaches at the same point on either a ground or jump helmet. If the canvas chin strap is sewn on then you can quit only an eagle eyed reactor will notice what you have done.

Now the properly set up liner looks like this.

Please note the front leather strap is the same.
First, the A yoke must be mounted between the liner and the suspension harness mounting brackets. This requires drilling out and then replacing the rivets. The minor danger here is a spinning rivet.
Second, The ground chin strap must be replaced with the airborne chin strap. The strap is sewn to the steel pot and has a snap dot that must face the inside of the liner and away from your head.
Third, with the canvas strap now installed on your pot, figure out where the other part of the snap should be mounted on the liner. Drill a hole and mount the snap. The danger here is cracking your liner.... it can still be used for a costume but not for jumping.

Hope this helps.

LOVE THIS! Great pics as far as the whole costume goes and the shield is a work of art man. I don't know if it helps or not, I used elastic for my laces. Can't tell they are elastic and I don't have to worry about them breaking over the long haul.

Gentlemen, Thanks for the praise and inspiration.

This week, I was able to get the new lower back buckle done except for the clear coat. I removed the 'neck' down to the belt loop, increased the overall thickness and made an internal wire frame. Should have made the frame in the first place.

1.) Old buckle 2.) Wire Frame 3.) Chromed 4.) Tarnished with pastels
I hope the frame will carry the load like the back star does.

Found a piece of sleeve in the back of the closet, so started to put together the leather for the helmet.

Essentially, recreated the A yoke from the steel pot but with scraps from the leg harness and stretched the leather 'sleeve' across with the seven holes punched.... didn't even worry about the ear cups or the five silver nail heads.

If I can get the dye to take to some camel colored leather scraps then the top of the gloves will be done.

Now, just need the boot cuffs and then I can go back and rework the pistol belt and pouches.

looking good! Have you tried the complete helm on yet? Mine makes me look like a football player, lol... really widens your head...

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Thanks Chris, every iteration of the Cap you do... you look big and powerful but, the only time I wore the TFA hero suit, I felt like Cap with dumbo ears.

Thankfully, the leather gets the ears under control.

Still needs the leather across the nose bridge and the chin cap.

I pulled the chin cup and other leather bits from the soup. Also, below is the pattern for the leather parts of the helmet.

Really like the color but the new parts don't match the gloves.
Hope that the gloves will age to match the cuffs or I can just get some dark brown or even black dye to re-do the new parts.

Now just have to wait for everything to dry before sewing.

Seriously Fly, your hard work, ingenuity, and outright talent never ceases to amaze me.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Just two words: holy crap! "Impressive" is quite an understatement for your work!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Thank you so much your the words of praise.

I must say that working with leather really fun.... once you have the proper tools. Thanks again Kevin.
It is just such a pleasant smell, almost like woodworking, and so much better than plastic and fiberglass.

Here is what the gloves ended up as.

Both have the cuffs added. The top in each photo is after I restitched the stock glove to look and behave more like the TFA gloves.
In the future, would like to add the wrist strap with the proper snap.

Supposedly, the gloves are now being made with a snap and not the velcro but I have yet to see the new version. This is a case where old stock discount may have worked against me.

The helmet is done!

In honor of this event.

Now get ready to pack everything up.

For the boot cuff, think I'll buy a pair of two buckle boots and steal the top part. Quick easy and get a pair of boots.

dude, thx for the pattern! the one part i was missing leather pattern wise :D

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Great work!! Now to decide on which version I want to do..... Decisions decisions....

How hard do you think it would be to modify the fitted helmet to have lenses/goggles? If I do something like this I'd really like to wear it while riding my motorcycle.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Crimson13, It would be easy if you built a pep helmet with goggles,it would look like some of the ideas for the Uncanny Avengers Cap.

If you decide on the TFA Cap, could try a pair of WW2 goggles that would fit over the helmet.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

The TFA route would be the easiest for the goggles. As much as I love the TFA version, I think I need to go more modern and maybe even do something based on the winter soldier sketches. My bike is pretty futuristic looking, so a TFA Capt. on it would look out of place.
