"Captain America, how exciting!" TWS TFA Rescue USO and Ultimates WW2

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Temperature is less important than humidity IMO. If you can spray it and then bring it indoors to dry, that would work best :thumbsup

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

I agree with Kev that humidity is much more important than temp. I had the same problem when trying to do mine this summer, that's why I didn't have the correct metallic sheen as the metal one I have now.

THIS IS LOOKING AMAZING FLY!!!

Roblenzz is an excellent choice, look forward to seeing the results.

Gentlemen, thank you for your sage advice on the paint. Having to wait has produced a day that has been both cold and wet. :facepalm

Since I can't paint, decided to see how the shield fits to my ruck.

Fits nicely with all the modern side release buckles but think it would look better on the old Alice pack.

The holster drop has been proceeding slowly, do one line of stitching when the opportunity presents itself. I'll do the outer lines first and then the inner later.

None of these parts are connected. The two eyelets are salvaged from the base jacket used for the rescue uniform.

I was bored working this morning and quickly played with Photoshop making this.

It resulted in a lecture, how I need to be more serious and that all things are not fun and games. :darnkids

Steal away! There is no such thing as plagiarism in the military/government but thanks for asking.

Morning Post!

Yesterday, I was a day that was close to all the parameters for painting. Had already made a paint box in an outside closet and the shield was wiped down as best I could. Quickly sprayed the Dulicolor Chrome Enamel and left for the day. ...Sadly, Metalcast doesn't have a chrome or silver.

Got back late yesterday so didn't look at it until this morning.

I made two test strips of styrene coated with the chrome.
First, to see how the Metalcast lacquer reacts when sprayed directly on the enamel. :confused Yes, I read that lacquer over enamel is not good but they are from the same company.
Second, to see what a coating of future does to the shine of the chrome. Hopefully, it will not dull the shine like the spray clear coating on the mounting ring of the steel shield. If that works then the Metalcast.

This is looking insanely good, and I can't wait to see it when it's done.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

One color away. Not too bad for a hunk of nylon.

The future dulled the silver and turned it almost white but the test of the Red on the Silver was good so I continued without clear coat.
When it is all done, Guess I will have to seal the shield with a good coat of auto polish.

Very cool! Might have to try and get one of those shields and try this myself now, lol.

Amazing work, Fly. Every time I check on this thread I'm blown away by your multiple talents. Love the shield, it's looking great.

To guarantee the best defense of freedom possible, please, ensure that the Major League Cap label is clearly displayed.

Was able to spray the blue today.
The weak part of the painting is the enamel chrome. I really wish Duplicolor had a chrome Metalcast because the car polish takes the enamel right off down to the plastic and did nothing but shine the Metalcast.

Think I will end up sealing everything with future and then go back and redo the silver with either Krylon Metallic or the Silver Rub and Buff.

Had a few chips that will require hand touch up from removing the masking tape

Thanks, Cap Patman! Your call just gave me an idea for my new Cap propaganda.

Here is a shot showing the back details minus the straps.

Around the edge, you can also see the effect of the masking tape on the chrome. :thumbsdown The chrome should been good after an hour, I let it sit for more than a day and look what I got.
The lacquer has no marks from the masking tape at all. I think the small chips from the lacquer that lifted were due to the chrome underneath.

It has been a great weekend, in-spite of some set backs.
Broke the goggles that I use for the Ultimates WW2 Cap. So much for the trusted motorcycle goggles.

So I dawned the incomplete TFA Hero uniform still minus boot cuff, leather for helmet, and the buckles on the gloves..... also the front of the shield has not been clear coated.... then in haste, I broke one of the leather boot laces.
The breaking didn't stop there. Half way through, the lower back buckle gave out and cracked across the top.

Even incomplete, the suit was a hit.

Very happy that it was freezing today because this suit gets hot fast.

I was glad that the back of the shield was polished and clear coated. No one believed that it was plastic.

Some were just being polite, maybe, yet it does shine in the sun.

I do know, after I fix the buckle, that I need to get the leather for the helmet done. Wow does the lack highlight the ears.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Back when I did the steel shield someone Photoshopped their Mom's car to have TFA spinners....

Just thought I'd do this before I put everything away and start on repairs.

Sorry I don't have a black bungee.
