"Captain America, how exciting!" TWS TFA Rescue USO and Ultimates WW2

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

:angry Missed by that much.
Leaving for Miami this morning.
Hope to catch the Montreal game Thursday night.
Did Disney still have the Avengers' Monorail running?

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Wow i just read this whole thread in one go and i loved how descriptive it was... really helpful and can't wait for more

I'm gonna ditto that, a really enjoyable and fascinating read.
Your attention to detail is superb, your various Caps are outstanding!!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Thanks for the comments. Sad to say I didn't get to the hockey game and there wasn't any Disney fun in Orlando so I can't confirm or deny continued use of the Avenger's Monorail.

Nothing photogenic has happen to the soupy suit. Some velcro tabs have been added under the shoulder pads, a course velcro around the bottom of the blue vest, elastic straps that go from the back tail under and around to the red suspenders, velcro cuffs on the sleeves, and thumb loops on the cuffs.

The lack of hockey was more than made up for with this:

This was packed better than I package things. The box was wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap with the shield inside the box also wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap.

I was really surprised with the quality of the airsoft shield. It has some flex but not as much as the steel saucer with the outer ring removed. The straps on the back mount to metal tab inserts. The tabs are kind of far apart compared to the movie shield. The front handle is a non-elastic black nylon and the upper arm strap is elastic and almost stretches enough to toss over your shoulder. There is a pour mark on the back of the shield, centered on the star, but nothing is visible from the front.

The rings are cast and well defined on the front and back but minus the grooves between the rings. The star is raised and without detail. Oddly, the back of the shield has the spun detail but the front is smooth.

Also, I guess the manufacturer went out of business. A www.address was removed from the back of the shield and the markings were cut from the box with only the big picture of the Cap remaining.

I plan to engrave the star, spin the front and make some leather straps for the back. Have to think how to incorporate movie style brackets into the already existing metal tabs and if they will be metal or plastic.

For those looking of a shield and don't want to wait for EFX this seems to be a good inexpensive option.

Edit: To clarify, the elastic strap fits over the shoulder, just wearing a tee shirt, but not over my TFA shoulder pads.

I like how your red and grey straps came out. Nice job.

Did you post where you got them?

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

I was looking for good pics of this shield. This is looking fantastic! I'm excited to see what you're going to do with it!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

oh, and to answer the monorail question, I didn't see or hear anything about an Avengers Monorail. :( Wish I knew if they had! I did get my pic with Captain America in Florida though at Universal!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

The Avengers Monorail was running from the Grand Floridian Hotel when I was there. Wish I had the camera and it is good that there wasn't any Disney in this trip.
I would have hunted for that train to the wife's dismay.

Great photo with the Cap. Kevin is right. I'd be worried about you getting the job. :lol There or over at the Indiana Jones Stunt Show but you didn't have your Indy Gear.

Also, wife was sad that we missed you by just a week and a few miles.

The red straps are made with red cotton fabric leftovers from the Ultimates Jacket sewn into 2 inch wide strips.
Sorry, I don’t have the info on that fabric anymore.
The 2 inch strips are then sandwiched between the Strapworks 1.5 inch Dark Red Flat Nylon Webbing and sewn with Coats and Clark Red Color 2250 65% polyester thread.

The 1.5 inch Silver Gray was too light in color. It was painted with Duplicolor Gray Fabric and Vinyl paint from Autozone.
The painted 1.5 inch Gray Nylon is sewn to 2 inch nylon web wrapped with the Cool River Twill.

Hope this helps.

Have I said how much I like the Airsoft Shield....
It is really nice having an all black shield when it is 28 degrees out. Kind of like having a little solar panel on your lap.

Engraved the star with a diamond tipped needle file. Drew the lines with a pencil with measurements based on the cover of the auction catalog.

The straps should look like something similar to this, just a little more involved.

The bracket under the leather straps will be made from sheet styrene left over from a Quest pulse rifle build. The outer ring will be deleted in favor of the Valor style of bracket.
I have some welded stainless steel rectangles on the way to go with the triangles shown.
Current plan, the arm bands will be free of the triangle and will attach to leather that will run from each triangle across the shield.
The cross strap should attach to the bracket via chicago screws in a similar fashion to the steel shield.

I ordered the airsoft shield too and what is interesting is that on yours they scratched out the web address.

That shield doesn't look bad at all! I liked your saucer build, as well. I came across one done the same way on etsy, but done approaching sort of a blend between the film shield and the comic book shield. Being that I'm an American working in a UK comic shop, getting a distinct and unique shield was important to me, so I nabbed it.

It will ruin any chance of my TFA suit ever being fully screen accurate, but I'm cool with that, lol.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Also, it pays homage to one of my favorite Cap covers!

Found an airsoft shield on eBay, very tempting...

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Thanks for the shield photos.

No need to worry about total screen accuracy. The Airsoft's can be the stunt shield until the EFX is released or an Aluminum shield is made.

I see you were asking about the chest strap in another thread. I used Minakolabelle's great pattern on an old jacket and this belt from Amazon.

Amazon.com: Dickies Mens 35mm Leather Reversible Belt With Stitch, Black/Brown, 2X: Clothing

It is currently on sale.

Edit: I ordered the largest belt I could.

Do we know how heavy the EFX shield is going to be? Or even what material it is going to be made out of?

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Steam, my guess is that the eFX shield will be majorly expensive, having seen the pre-order cost and payment scheme for the Thor stuff. From all the shield builds done on here, I think it would be much cheaper to do a build. No idea what the eFX one will be made from, but I'd guess aluminum or steel, or some sort of metal plated fiberglass.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

It will be fiberglass, made from the production mold

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Think a good price point for an Aluminum Shield vs the EFX is $500 to $600.
I believe that if you price out the bits to build the Aluminum Shield, that is what you would come up with minus labor.
The blank disk is the easy part. The mounting ring, buckles, and hardware not so much...don't know what is in the Junk Yard or how long they would be available.
General Frosty did solve the Metalizer Paint problem by decanting the paint and using a paint gun. That only helps if you have a big airbrush. You also need a shop to do the automotive clear coat.
So costs will add up fast.

For the EFX shield, I know the front will be fiberglass and hope the back would have metal fittings and real leather. But doubt, it will not have the aluminum veneer of the Avengers Hero Shield.
