"Captain America, how exciting!" TWS TFA Rescue USO and Ultimates WW2

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Your life for this suit stir well and live.

I am going to try and get a photo of this outside before the angry ball of fire disappears. It is not forecast to be out again.

Man, I'm tired. This evening I will crash hard. It will either be the sound sleep of satisfaction or tears on my pillow.

Thanks for all that have been watching and I can tell my senses are dulled. I didn't warn about using an electric glue gun and a pan of water. :confused
So KIDS, certainly, don't shove a leathermen in your washer's kill switch and push the shoulders down while the washer is running. :love

Also, Papa India Sierra Sierra doesn't need to be censored.

We have blue HBT!!!!!!!! :love

The pocket and bottom strip is the Berne suit bits and the top is the Pointer pants.

Now, I have to do the other parts of the suit but work will now stop when the sun sets since the major hurdle has been cleared.

Here is what the other textures look like together.

the texture in those are amazing! an the match look pretty damn good to me!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

That looks great!!!! Came out perfect!!
What did you use for the dye bath?

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

1 packet of Dye Remover and lots of dumb luck.

I washed everything together in Sun Tropical Release liquid detergent with Tide Stain Remover powder added in.

Removed all the wet bits, set the machine on Warm, Delicate, Large. When the tube was half full dumped in the dye remover and then restarted and let the agitation go for 5 minutes.

Added all the suit parts, 30 minutes of broom handle assisted washing, had to keep resetting the dial.

2 complete wash cycles with no detergent and then tossed the all parts in the dryer on Auto Permanent Press.

Had some minor shrinkage, good for the vest and pants not so much for the shoulders, guess I should have used tumble dry but I wanted to get it done.

I really believe it was just the combination of all the different blues from the pants, suit, foam pads, and the Velcro.

Big Time!!! Thankee for explaining the process. This looks very nice.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Some with a UD suit could chime in with the measurements.
The suspenders were based on the gray webbing being 1.5 inches.
So the red worked out to be 1.5 inches of Dark Red webbing and a 2 inch backing.
Perhaps I am too HUGE and make everything look small. :lol:lol:lol

Yes, Please!

I have the UD jacket. Total width of the two grey suspenders is slightly more than 1.5". Lighter red strap, which is actually on the top and bottom of the darker red strap is 1.5". Darker red strap, sandwiched in the middle of other red straps is 2" wide.
Moral of the story, your measurements are on the money Fly.
Again, well done.

And TimeWithout, I would like to see the shield as well!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

First let me say wow this is looking awesome! I love the way the color came out!

I can offer a few words of wisdom... When using the color remover, I had a ton better luck using the boiling pot method but be careful of the fumes!

The second thing I would offer is this. Do not worry about the actual dimension of the original suit. Are you the same dimension as Chris Evans? Make it look right on you! Nothing bugs me more that seeing people stress about something being screen perfect at the cost of the look of their costume. Just last night I was hanging a shelf and when I put the level on it I knew it was dead level, but because of the light in the room or optical illusion every single person looking at it thought it was not level. So what better being right(level) or skewing that corner 2 millimeters so it looks level to everyone.

If I remember correctly the measurements on my red suspenders were closer to 2.25" plus some bias slop. When I make costumes I generally pick something I can relate to. Example, how many red straps does it take to cover Chris Evans abdomen? From ref pics it's 7 or 7.5 so I measured my abdomen, in costume and do the math... for me it worked out to 2.25" or some thing like that. Anyway I don't mean to preach I think your build is all kinds of bad ass and I can't wait to see whats next!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

What Sgt Morton said! I went with 1.75 on my red web so I could use paragear harware and make the whole shoulder righ a web gear setup that is easy to wear and put on take off.

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

BB: Thanks for confirming the measurements.

SGMorton: Excellent advice and you are not preaching... You are speaking from success. Besides a slavish devotion to accuracy is null and void if, as in my case, you don't have all the tools to achieve the necessary precision.
On Chris Evans and I will add Chris Hemsworth. Uh No. I don't get the same shirtless reaction that they receive.

Rikarus: All can say is for those lurkers that are not members of the RPF. Join. Just so you can see the great collage in his signature.

If the sewing machine didn't like two layers of fabric and foam, it will not react well to the nylon straps. So many broken and bent needles later.

I have run out of the 2" that I have been wrapping in the blue gray fabric and am down to my last needle. It is some what upsetting since I still have all the 1.5" gray to do.

Here is everything up to this point. Even tossed on the holster to show that it can fit the Target belt.

Just in case I can't get away with the fiberglass helmet gave it a try with the Rescue steel pot. Not too bad, kind of looks like this guy.

Looks good. have you considered trying a heavier needle or is your machine not set up for them?

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Have used the heaviest needle I could and it broke faster than the regular needles.
New sets, both regular and heavy, are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow afternoon.
Also, don't think this machine is for working with all the padding and webbing. The back corner where the straps over lap is too thick to fit under the foot.

I need whatever riggers use to repair parachute harnesses and pack trays.
If I can get everything under the foot, I'll just hand cycle the machine. It will take forever but will be faster, hope, than doing the rest of the suspenders by hand.

Taking a break from sewing forced me to address what I was dreading, the back star and lower bracket.

The finish on the star kind of sucks. Hope I can sand it down without finding the wire hanger.

The bracket is not movie accurate. Think this will be stronger.

The bottom bracket is looking really good! I keep coming back every few days just to look at your progress, and it is amazing how fast you are doing this! Keep it up!

Re: "Captain America, how exciting!" TWS concept and TFA

Continuing to work on the hard bits.
The chest star is a metal star that was trimmed to the correct size. Epoxied a plastic backing for the bi-level detail.
