Limited Run Captain America Gaiters

I am usually really conservative about showing my templates, but in this case I will; This is the gaiter template made out of craft foam. It behaves very similar to leather; it is flexible, of medium rigidity and durable enough to be reused.

No worries. This is a tough market to be in. People will steal your designs and pass them off as theirs in an instant. Has happened to me a few times and I was pretty much powerless to do anything but rant. Now I just don't really show much other than completed projects.

First leather dry run. There will be the strip sewn in the front, they will obviously be the black with blue panels, and the straps abd buckles will be leather and steel. This was to test the pattern of the gaiter themselves.

It looks like maybe the front of the movie gaiter comes farther forward over the instep. And does the proportion of the movie gaiter seem more slim around the calf? Like the shaft of the gaiter needs to be tighter (stiffer)?

The next version will have a stiffened strip of leather down the front, and be made of thicker leather. That will give it much more rigidity and form that this version. I see your points though and we'll post the next version up here too for insight.

So I have some bad news. My bloody suppliers ran out of suitable black leather. My back-up suppliers (both) have run out of suitable black leather.

I got some other leather and tried dying it. It ran and was blotchy. I tried using spray stain, and it was cracking - looked like Hell. Really frustrated. I am not using Veg Tan for this, but only chrome tanned hide (that is what it was priced out as). Now, I am going to another supplier today to see what they have. If I do not get anything by the end of this week I am going to ship out all the harness sets that are already completed and then ship the gaiters later when I can build them right.

Yeah - the problem with the template and prototype is the leather is too thin. It is also not rigis enough. I have leather in shop that is too rigid. I need a 3 oz semi-rigid black leather. More difficult to find than you think. 4-5 oz is too thick, and the 2 oz I used for the prototype is too soft.

We also tweaked the straps, and the area to be stained blue.

Thank you for understanding about the delays. All I have to go on is my reputation as a quality builder.

I always return to the saying you can have two of the the three options below:

You can have it cheap
You can have it fast
You can have it good

In the case of the gaiters they are good and cheap. Not so fast.

We have the straps cut out for about 8 of them (half) and the buckles in stock. Even with the template the damn things just don't sit right. We are working on them again Thursday morning. We did just finish the second run of harnesses/belts this week with the first two of the third run cut out. Slowly but surely...

Hello.

Comicon is this weekend. It has taken over the shop, as you can imagine. There are 13 gaiters on order, and 9 Cap sets. they are in the queue. I make things in order of the order being placed. Your products are not being put aside we are just experiencing problems with first materials and now time.
