Can we keep the Junkyard somewhat on topic?

Re: Categorising the Junkyard

I'd like to see a two-way separation between people selling stuff and people auctioning stuff.

I hate nothing more than clicking on a "FS" thread to find a link to an auction :angry

Draven
Well it's suppose to be "FA" in the thread title if it's an auction (but I guess some members haven't read the "Announcement: Jedirick's Tips" at the top of the JY).

If you see one like that again, you should mention it to the member so they can fix it.

Re: Categorising the Junkyard

I'd still be happy to see prop and non prop sections, sections by film would be overkill i think but 2 sections would be good or just stop all the non prop sales.
It's actually important for a lot of people to generate sales to cover costs of producing something for themselves or to fund the next project, so to say sales are secondry is wrong.
We wouldn't see a lot of the cool projects undertaken by people here without sales.

There are other places online to generate sales of non prop items, although it does happen, the RPF really isn't the place for it, they'd have better luck on eBay or sites dedicated to sales of such items.

Sales on the RPF IS secondary, this forum was created to showcase works of talented members, one offs and the like. The fact that runs have been made is a bi-product of the talent and quality of work and generosity of sharing. The RPF doesn't want to be seen as a place to obtain bootleg products, if it was, it probably wouldn't be here today. We're sure that some of the copyright and Intellectual right owners of some of the props replicated here are aware of us and it is by their grace that we're allowed to continue.

Cheers,

Re: Categorising the Junkyard

I wish everyone would come over and read this thread. Members could learn a heck of a lot just checking in on topics like this from time to time. Maybe the MODs could send a message into everyones inbox with suggestions like this to make life easier on us all!

Re: Categorising the Junkyard

Do away with the JY then if sales are nothing to do with this forum.
Personally i'd like to see it stay though, just improve on the layout is all.
Nobodies going to retire on the proceeds of RPF sales but there are costs associated with developing a replica so builders sell a few copies to cover that or fund something new without drawing unwanted attention that listing on Ebay or running a site could bring and collectors get an opportunity to add to their collection, everyones a winner.
I don't see how categorising the JY will bring any more attention from the studios than the unorganised mess it is now does ?

Re: Categorising the Junkyard

I didn't say that sales were nothing to do with the RPF.

As Oritz pointed out, people sell props from several different genre's in the same thread. To be honest, I think that's tidier than several sub forums. Also, as Eagle pointed out, you might come across something that you didn't know you were looking for, so that's a win/win situation too. Selling on eBay may bring unwanted attention to an individual, but seeing as the RPF has a large member base, unwanted attention here is an entirely different story as it will impact a community.

Good suggestion BFC, however, that's why this section of the forum exists, there are a lot of views in this area.

Well then i guess you didn't read my post because i never said several sections i said two, one for props and one for non props.
For people who like to browse then they are still able to do so, what's stopping them ?
Again i'm not sure why you bought up the whole studio attention thing again as organising the JY won't mean any more sales it's just organising the ones that there already are a bit.
Please explain how this will bring increased attention ?

P.S when was the last time anything in this section suggested by anyone was actually taken up and not just ignored for months and then shot down if it doesn't die a natural death ?

It was a general statement addressing the original idea.

Splitting into genre would be the problem which was the original topic. To be honest, I don't think splitting into prop and non prop areas would increase attention. However, although there are some non props posted in the JY, it's few and far between. Also, considering that this is a prop forum, we'd like to keep it relatively on topic, the small amount of OT sales is OK, but we don't want to turn into an online trading post.

P.S when was the last time anything in this section suggested by anyone was actually taken up and not just ignored for months and then shot down if it doesn't die a natural death ?

Although not "taken up", this thread hasn't been ignored nor shot down. I tried to go into depth as to why either suggestions wont be implemented.

Thanks to everyone for their input in this thread, I think it's run it's course :)
