The main body is detailed and I threw a quick coat of primer on it. Tomorrow I’ll assemble it and then figure out the supporting structure. Once I have done that the head should be the easy part.
Today I finished up with the rest of the armor plating so next will be the support structure and tying it all together. I’ll probably have to shelve this for a few weeks as my shop has gotten busy again.
I managed to sneak in an hour of play at work today and put together the supporting structure. Right now the bottom of the mid section stands at 7’ tall. I’m hoping to have the legs on it Saturday and then I’ll have to set it aside for a couple of weeks.
I got one of the legs bolted together today and have the angles set so it is self supporting.
I set it beside the body just to check the height. I figured I would need to drop the body a bit when I originally set the height. I didn’t greatly know where it would end up until the legs were assembled as I knew I wanted it balanced.
I set the final height and leg angles this morning. One keg bolted on and then one more to go. Once the head is built everything should balance out but I can add a bit of ballast if needed. The pieces are a bit awkward to work with but setup has been a one man job so far.
Second leg attached. Once the head is on and everything balanced out I may fix the legs in position and figure out a way to join the feet for greater stability.
Well after some paying work and a bout with Covid I am back on this project. I managed to rough out the head today and couldn’t resist setting it on top just to see how it all looks.
Right now it is “No Neck Joe” so it sits a little lower than when finished.
I also took this opportunity to add a few more leg details and beef up the frame a bit.
I started detailing the head today, starting with the face. In order to keep the weight down, any armor panel that I am adding I am removing most of the material underneath.
I finished the detailing on both sides and most of the back today. I couldn’t resist throwing some primer to see what the finished product will look like.
I started working on the neck assembly today and couldn’t resist mocking it up. It looks like I need to shorten the neck a few inches and then I can close this thing up and finish detailing the top.
And here is one of my main references, a papercraft model I built. In hindsight I should f go ave bought the Bandai model but then I would probably get bogged down counting rivets!
