Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Update

Thanks everyone!!!

- the velcro on the back of the Jet Pack needs to be re-glued with something stronger

-And the gauntlets are not done yet

-And perhaps the bottom green stripe on the pants leg

-we are not doing a belt.... he has no hips to hold one....

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Your kids costume is just too cute I think I need to hurry up and release the pepakura files for kids to make costumes with. I'm lazy I know I'll do it sooner or later.

Velcro? Glue the ruff side to the inside of the belt and sitch the soft side to the pants...Then the belt should stay in place.

Awesome! That really turned out great, and the smile says it all.

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Wow missed quite some progress since the last time I looked in here.. it's looking really good. always liked it as a kid when my parents made me a costume. I bet he'll think back after 22 years (when he's my age) about this costume with atleast the same joy as I have for mine..!!

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Most impressive. I'm going to have to start doing this myself next year when my boy turns 2.

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Great costume and your boy looks mighty happy in it! Looking forward to more photos when you post them. :)

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Thanks for the kind words everyone....

- we bought some more foam to do the green trim on the pants cuffs....
- And we need to figure out how to attach the cup gauntlets so they are not just hanging there.

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

I guess the cups can be attached to the borders of the sleeves.. see no problem getting in and out the costume if they are..

either glue them together or use clickbuttons.

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Armor Pants
Cut out 15" strips of green fun foam (and 2 fun foam circles) and super glued them to the base of the pants. I used a djembe drum for a mannequin.

Completed right leg looks like this:

Still have to finish:
- left leg
- gauntlets

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Just had a thought about his knees...shoulder pad inserts :love

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

Wrist Gauntlets
So I sprayed them both white and painted the top border green. But in order to keep them on my son's wrists (and be comfortable) my wife came up with a plan. She took some old socks and cut the feet off - and then I glued one end of the sock to the inside of the cup.

Now on to making and adhering the decal to the left gauntlet... and my L.E.D. project

Re: Buzz Lightyear (2 year old) costume build -PROGRESS PICS

well the sock thing didn't work - so that idea got scrapped....

Gauntlets
So I sprayed them both white and painted the top border green. And began adding the detailing...
