I could use a little help nailing down the caliber of these bullets from Zoe's gun rig on Firefly:

I'm guessing .45 caliber, but I'm not well versed in ammo. Thanks in advance for the help!

If it is .45, it's too long to be 45acp. They might be .45-70 Government, which is what the gun is said to be chambered in.

Much too short to be .45-70s. Most likely .45 Colts, or as they are commonly misknown as Long Colt.

The most likely caliber for a Mod. 92 Winchester (which is what the Zoe carbine/pistols are based on) is the 44-40; a rather common early lever gun round.

Yeah, no way it's .45-70, the rounds would be nearly twice as long. It's either .44-40 or .45 Colt (long colt)

Looks like Long Colt.Assuming the cut-down rifle she uses is fairly new(a reproduction),a lot of the newer replica rifles for Cowboy Action Shooting are pistol caliber.:thumbsup

Did a little digging and that is supposedly a modified Rossi Puma .44-40, turned in to a Mare's Leg. So .44-40 would fit. But remember that this is Hollywood. Steve McQueen's Mare's Leg wasn't .45-70 in Wanted: Dead or Alive, but that is what he carried in the cartridge loops because it looked more impressive on screen.

The "dummy" rounds in the cartridge belt are either .44-40 or .45LC

I can't tell for sure. Look for a bottle-necked case of the .44-40 to be sure.
