Building The Death Star - PRODUCTION

Brad... Yes, and no...! ;)

On for the dates; yes. But you're way optimistic to think we'll be drilling windows! Sanding primer, laying a base coat, maybe some entry level masking - that's more in line with where I'll be in a couple of weeks! ;)

Sounds like even more fun!

Back in grey...

This is with the trench shortened up by one millimeter. I didn't think it was quite enough, so I'm currently taking another half a millimenter out of its height.

Rob,
Ya know, this might be the last time you get to hug your deathstar before all the detailing.

This coat is really looking smooth. :thumbsup

Is she light tight?

Rob, have you considered putting some putty around the dish from behind? It would ensure 100% light blockage, and you wont have to worry about any of those pesky CA earthquakes knocking that pretty dish off.

Yes.

But the lights (holes) on the original come right up to the edge of the dish, so I'd have to be very careful and precise, and now that it is closed up, its hard to reach the back side of the dish, even with my Wookie arms!

What I WILL be doing though, is painting the back side of the dish with black or silver brush-on paint.

After my second go at shortening the height of the trench, here is what it is looking like...

The more grey shots are the "after" - the section just below the dish is the completed portion. The more blueish shots are the "before".

On a side note, pretty amazing how different the same color primer looks under different lighting.

Rob and I are planning on getting together on March 7th at his house to layout the painting templates. Hopefully we can get a layer or two on within that time. It may take a couple of meetings, then I think it would be time for the windows...

Rob, send me a reply to my last e-mail.

Its funny, Brad - it just dawned on me driving home that I think I flaked and forgot to respond! Yes - good drugs do bad things to brain cells!

Just a thought.

I was looking over my OT Chronicles book and there are some nice photos of the Death Star II during painting.

If the DSII looks like the DSI on screen, my logic would tell me they were 'made' the same way to look the 'same'.

Do you think those painting photos might be useful ?
