Building my own Macrobinoculars

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Thanks to Clutch's little tutorial this Eumig has now been stripped and ready for it's parts. Still need the parts though.

I used Killdozer's tutorial to make the box. All it needs is some sanding and a paintjob.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

I pm'd russ a couple of months ago about a lens plate and he was out of them. I also had a WTB in the JY with no hits. Maybe we can convince him of a small run...

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

I also PM-ed Russ but still no reply. I also asked him for all measurements so that I could fabricate one of my own somehow.
So I came up with my own measurements and asked the contractor I work for if he knows someone who came make me one of these. He said he'll have a look around so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Gosh, I scored a Koni-Omegaflex M (or Blue.. whatever) at a camera shop in Carlsbad, Ca ten years ago, and thought I had discovered the holy grail. I put it in my local theater as part of a prop display when Episode 2 came out, and it was promptly stolen along with a few other items two days later. When I found out that it WASN'T the correct camera, I was less injured by the theft... I think I only paid twenty bucks for the camera at the time. It was also the same place I picked up three King Sol flashguns for five dollars a pop. Stupid me, I donated it to someone here a few years back, and never got a thank you. He just ripped off my Emailed joke about Vader polishing his Happy King of the Sun emblem...

Good luck with your build!

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Got the Seagull camera this week. Started stripping the camera for parts. Unfortunately the little transparent plastic cover from the focusing knob broke so if anyone has a spare one (does the one from the Kalimar fit?) please let me know.

The Bell & Howell two twenty should be arriving soon so I can place the dial in the focusing knob.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Looking great so far!

Does anyone know what paint colors I could use to touch up my Eumig? It needs a bit of work, but I know nothing about matching paint.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Wow... That shows how long it's been since I looked at a Macro thread.

When were the two knobs on the black box figured out? I was always of the impression they were 660 knobs.

You might be right Gary. I think I might have misread Chris' post. I think these (or at least one of them) belongs next to the large Seagull knob on the side of the camera.

@ Macklin, why touch it up? It SHOULD look kinda busted up I think. Gives it character.

Whoa, just tried to remove the little knobs from the box. This is impossible. I drilled two holes and glued the knobs in it using 2-comp. epoxy glue. I can't remove them without seriously damaging the box. Think I'll have to leave it like this.

Just found these pics of the Eumig lectric R. Could this be the mysterious black box :confused?

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

No, I mean 1 of the 4 small knobs is possibly from the Seagull (in addition to the big dial). I don't think they're all identical.

There are 2 macro props (stunt and hero) each has 4 small knobs (8 total).
The Seagull knobs are taller than the Kalimar ones so they stick out further.
The lower (closer to the viewer) small knob next to the large dial sticks out further on both props - I believe those are the 2 Seagull knobs.
I'm 100% positive on the stunt, but I'm not sure if the stunt uses both small Seagull knobs or just one.

There is still at least one more unidentified still camera used (and one movie camera) for the two props.
The 2 Kalimar 660's yield 4 small knobs, the Seagull another 2, and 2 more had to come from another camera.

Could someone please tell me which knob Chris means. Number 1 or 2, or both? I personally think number 1.

I managed to remove the two Seagull knobs I put on the box without damaging it.
Monday I'll be picking up a Kalimar camera so that means a viewfinder and 2 knobs. No lens though :cry.
Oh, today I received the B&H camera so the macro is now upgraded with the dial.

Correct. Knob #1 is likely a Seagull. I'm not positive though. It seems to stick out further (than #2) and the knob in that exact same position on the Stunt Macros is a Seagull one for sure.

Could someone please tell me which knob Chris means. Number 1 or 2, or both? I personally think number 1.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Which Model Seagull did you get? I keep seeing the ones with the plastic dial, not the metal.

Edit, nevermind, it looks like it's the plain old Seagull 4, not the 4A or 4B.

I've got a pic of Fixer holding some macros. What version were they? There is no horizontal bar in the knob. The two buttons on the side look to be tall as well.

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

Just a little update. All I need now are the 2 Kalimar lenses and the lens plate. But I think Russ will start a little run of these soon :rolleyes.

Looking good! Don't forget to paint the plate with the Kalimar logo black. :)

Re: Luke Macrobinocluars help wanted

This is still one of my all time great prop finds. I never tire of watching this get put together.

Quite like the idea of the black box being the light meter. Does anybody have anything close to a photo of the darkside box just to look at it again.
