BTTF Marty Sunglasses

Ok guys... we are officially starting pre-production on these. So, I'd like any of you who have original Zeiss glasses to double check these
measurements for us. This is what I have so far:

temple length: 130 mm (5.12 inches)
vertical height: 55 mm (2.17 inches)
horizontal width: 145 mm (5.71 inches)

Let me know what measurements you come up with (photos with measurements are always good to avoid confusion). The more info you guys can provide, the better these will turn out. We'll be making quite a few of them, so we can't afford to mess anything up.

Yes. I managed to find an original pair of zeiss glasses with the correct brow bar which i took off and fixed to a cheap pair of aviators
I had that same idea a few months ago but was unable to find any frames.

TheRealMcFly, any chance on getting those measurements? The brow piece especially needs to be perfect right from the beginning as once we make the sample, this piece cannot be changed. If we need to tweak the frames, we can generally do so, but the bridge bar will be done in one big run from the beginning.

Thanks,
Indy

Just wondering if you have any idea of the end price these will come out at Magnoli?

Our other glasses are running around $75-$85, and these should be in the same range. The custom bridge piece and lenses may put the price up a tad, but they will almost certainly be under $100 (shipping included).

We're still waiting on confirmation of measurements from @TheRealMcFly, but my designers didn't want to wait, so here are their preliminary specs:

So, if anyone else has some Zeiss glasses handy... feel free to compare!

If they are made to those specs they'll never be worth the price tag. Please don't let my six hours of hand drawn blueprint be for nothing. From the photos I have already sent, you might have noticed the following.

too curved, the real glasses have a slight curve but do not wrap around your face. From a top view, they are almost straight across.

The angle of the arm around the ear needs to be more extreme so the glasses sit level on their own.

The piece across the nose is not flat from above

The metal across the top that holds the guard is not wide enough, there should be a gap on either side.

Nosepads and attachment is not the correct style

Lol. If I'm involved in anything you can count on two things. It will take a long time. Every last detail will be just right. And if I'm working alone it will never be finished.

What are your thoughts on the nosepads, will the factory be able to use the same style as the originals or does sourcing Zeiss nose-pads significantly alter the cost?

New specs... the plastic bridge piece is too long (we'll be revising that in the next draft) but besides that, let me know what you think:

Better, but a lot of the measurements I sent with the diagram are not reflected in this version.

I notice the lens is marked Base 600C. The shape is very close but I can only describe the real thing being slightly more squarish. The outer edges should be more parallel and this base seems to curve out to a point where the arm attaches. Is there another base lens they might have that may be closer or is there an industry method to properly measure an original so we are speaking their language?

Here is our design overlaid onto the Zeiss glasses from Vintage Sunglasses Shop:

The plastic bridge piece, as we mentioned above, definitely needs to be a bit narrower and perhaps the nose-pads longer, but everything else seems to match up pretty well.
