BTTF Delorean Pics at Universal Studios Backlot

More pics. The ones in the daylight are Ohrberg's replica, the ones at night are the one on the tram tour. A couple observations: The Ohrberg car, as you can see, is hidden behind some other debris. There wasn't a soul around when we took these pics. There were many loose pieces on/in the car that could have been easily swiped (thankfully for the BTTF community, I am against that, but other people with less respect for the car/movie might not be). Another observation...I can't find the pic now, but the inside of Biff's convertible was just a mess....covered in debris, leaves, etc...such a shame.

So sad to see them rot. The only good thing is we get to see with the replica, what Universal did to replicate the original.

As a kid i always wonderd what happend to these cars? Thats really dissapointing to see them in this kind of condition, hope someday sometin can be done

It is a shame they just let movie cars & props sit and rot in the backlot.
I saw those cars when I went to Universal on the VIP tour.
The one DeLorean, Biff's car, and the 2015 cars on the tour don't look that bad, but that one sitting in the back looks horrible, and the Lyon Esates signs are falling apart.
When I was there I saw a bunch on the 2015 future cars from part II sitting back where they park the tram cars.
These vehicles and props are worth so much money and the studio just lets them sit out back after the films are made. :thumbsdown

It's quite hard to look at those pictures to see how they've just been left to rot like unwanted toys. By the looks of things the best looking one out of all of them is Biff's black car from 1955! They should be done up and auctioned off for charity. Hopefully when the restored part 3 car goes on sale it will give Universal the idea to do that!

forgive me if this is stated elsewhere but what car is on display at USF? is that a replica or another screenused car?

The USF car is a screen used Part III car that was used to drive on the rails for a few seconds at the end of the movie.

Fan's refer to it has the "Oxnard car", as that is where it was shot...

Good Lord, it tears me up to see the two D's wasting away. As a Delorean owner myself I always hate seeing any of them mistreated like this. The one that saddens me more is Biff's car. It's hard enough to find a war era 46-48 Ford convertible, to let one waste away on a tram tour is just sickening :sick:cry

I think they also have the train from BTTF III at USF as well.

Well part of the way Universal Studios looks at it, is, they put an investment int he cars to make the movie. The movie has since made back a huge return on the investment. So to them the stuff is just extra left overs from a production. They let them sit around as they know people will buy tickets to go see the cars on display in almost any condition. So they can continue to make money without having to spend any money. It is a sad but true way Universal has operated with these cars. Now with the numbers that items have been bringing in at auction have they woken up? Maybe. Back in the early 90s some Universal employees tried to get the brass at Universal to put the BTTF DMC in doors, it was a struggle to get a tarp for the car back then! Universal didn't do anything, they have left the car to rot. It is no wonder so many workers and fans have taken stuff off the car, half of it was falling off. Universal tried to sell the "C" car remains to Planet Hollywood. Planet Hollywood went to check it out and passed on it, the damage was done, it was all gutted and rotted away. So that car's remaining parts were used to help make a replica for the Japan park and the rest was scrapped away. Which to a film history buff is amazing, as the "C" car is the car that is seen the most with the actors on screen.

Here are some pictures of the BTTF stuff I saw at Universal in 2008.

-I was there after the fire in June. The courthouse and some of the BTTF set was the only thing that survived the baclot fire, at least the cousrthouse and some of the bulildings are still there.

-The same cars where on display: Biff's car, the Delorean, Goldie Wilson III's hovercar from part II, and an extra future car.

-They had some small models on display from part III: Doc's train, and the Delorean.

Continued post...

-On the special effects stage they had a model flying Delorean from part II, and one of the Hoverboards used by a member of Griff's gang.

-There was a large Hoverboard from part II hanging in the prop warehouse.

-Then the Lyon Esates signs where there.

-They had "Doc Brown's Chicken" leftover from the BTTF ride.

I also saw alot of the 2015 future cars, a Delorean, and some 1950's cars from Back to the Future parked behind a garage, I could'nt get any pics :unsure

I love how studios will try and squeeze every dime out of movies (lets add a character that will look good as a toy), but they have a potential gold mind in large scale props and they have not figured out how to use it. Back in the day, I am sure it was hard to find anyone who wanted to buy a full size Jaws prop, but with the internet and the current Prop collection popularity (how many auction shows are there now?!) it should be easy. Take care of the props you want to keep, sell everything else. No brainer.
