BSG National Geographic ~Work in Progress~

Then there's the issue of the text on the inside of the mag differing from what was spoken on the show... which do you go for?

Any idea's of how to get a print of this? I don't think my crappy ink jet would do it justice and Kinko's won't touch something like this.

just put it on a jumpdrive and take it to someplace like Office depot or kinko's . It's pretty easy for them to do laser copies for very cheap.

I have access to an adhesive vinyl printer that I will post details about when all is said and done.

Well, technically, what was spoken was apparently in the actual article. From what you can tell from the prop and what is "read" by "Angel" Six, she apparently reads the first line of the article and then the slug line (which happens to be the Tanzania bit from what you can see on the actual prop next to the map of Africa).

But like I said, since I don't have any good scans of the article (and the odds of finding them being pretty slim), I'll just be happy to just have the cover of the magazine. One of the biggest things that's I had to ask myself about the cover was to either make it screen accurate (where the back cover is yellow) or should I keep it "real" (by keeping the advertisement on the back). Even now, I still haven't decided on what to do.

This is very cool. It never hurts to ask for something from the source. The worst they can do is say "no".

Well, the worst would be for them not to respond at all. Then you wait and wait, not knowing... did they get my message, do they understand the request, are they ignoring me, etc.........

Anyway - This is exciting. Best of luck here.

Well, CB2001, you could always do two versions - one with the yellow back and one with an ad back there.

Bud, the cranium is from "The man of Arago" (Cráneo del hombre de Aragón, in spanish) and most commonly called "Tautavel Man", here's another pic where you can easily see all the tips of both craniums (which are both the same).

A close pics of the one they used:

If I'm not wrong it actually is at the American Museum of Natural History.

It's close... well, it looks like the same skull but at the wrong angle. Hopefully, the photog will come through with Sean.

Looks like the hero and back-up props where a lil different. Note the blacker/purple-er background on this one.

The angle isn't wrong of the picture on the cover itself. It's the lighting. If you look closer at the upper jaw, you can notice the bumps on the jaw where the teeth used to be on the one on the cover, while the one that KaanE linked. It does look like to be the same skull, except the difference is in the lighting. Plus, the fact that they took the picture of a skull in front of a real background instead of pasting it onto one makes the difference too.

There are a few subtle differences, lighting, angle, etc... But here is that one:

I have yet to hear back from the photographer, but I will have access *soon* to high res scans of the original prop, so we will be cooking with fire soon. :)

Frakkin' awesome!!

Can't wait, I've been a huge BSG fan, and have just picked up almost the entire series for $19.00 a season from Walmart. Only season 4.5 is still $39.99

The complete series on bluray is released in better packaging in April... I will be picking that up.

Hoping for an update in this National Geographic... Very excited about this!

Okay, for what I have on hand, I am done. Click on the small version below to take you to the 300dpi JPG file.

It is 11" x 14" with the black border - a very agreeable frame size. If you don't want it framed, just trim the black off for Nat Geo size.

Since I have yet to hear back from the photographer, I guess either he did not take that actual picture or he does not want to release it to us. Heh, that would have made it too easy. :rolleyes

When I get the actual scan of the cover, I'll post another update.

Enjoy.

Looks good, Sean... very close. But, I'm still hoping for the actual image. The angle and lighting are off just that tiny bit.

Thanks for your work on this.
