Careful with those pics. I think the second angle is the first key they sold, which wasn't screen used and looked a little different...
I'm reading this on a phone, so it's hard to tell which is which in the photos...

But, since I _own_ the screen used one, if you want a few more pictures I'm sure I can accommodate...
:)

Yes sir please share, pretty please, with a cherry on top.:angel

Yeah, both of those pictures are of the prototype key. Now that I see them better, the obvious difference is the recessed area where the Flash Fire button is visible. On the final key this is very nicely machined out with just a simple hole drilled in it for the button.

Don't use that one at all for your replica, it'll be missing details. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow so you can see what it should look like.

Rik1138, many thanks for your help, looking forward to the pictures.

I love how the whole thread just stops while waiting for pictures... :)

Here's a pic of both sides. Additional measurements: the small piece on the back is 1/2 inch thick, and the larger flat section beneath the cylinder is 3/4 inch thick.

And here's a shot of the screen-used key with the Rebelscum replica... Just in case there was any doubt of it's awesome-ness... :)

Wow! I knew I seen a trench on the lower part In a screen capture. thought it could be a reflection tho. Thank you Rik. :thumbsup

Loving all of the references!

So in some of the photos, there are keyed grooves in the acrylic rods. And in others, they don't appear to be there. Which is the correct one?

And yes, I will be releasing any 3D model I come up with in Thingiverse under Creative Commons.

Rik1138,

Thank you for the images. And of course everything stops awaiting images. The vast majority of us here have only seen these kinds of props on the television screen whilst we watch our favourite show. Without clear pictures like yours or detailed drawing to work off of, there would be much less replica building. Sure we could all just wing it and come up with a masterpiece but I'd wager it would be a rare occurrence. Anyway, on with my post. In the three images below, I indicated where I were I believe to be a bevel on the bottom of the key. In the second image I indicated where on number one it looks as though it is not beveled but 90 degrees as one would get laying two flat pieces one on top of the other. Number 2 looks as though it is beveled. Is number 2 the show key?

Just to muddy the waters a bit more, the third image is from a screen grab of the show and it indicates that the beveled section is smaller. Just trying to get an accurate idea, sorry for all the confusion.

No groves in the acrylic... They just cut the ends at an angle. If you haven't seen the lights in person, it might be the fibre optic threads you are seeing. There's a ring of what looks like white lines going through the center of the rod, those are what channel the light through it. They aren't just clear pieces of plastic. Those probably just look weird in some of the photographs...

Yeah, there's some work done there... It's not actually 'bevelled', but its cut in a little from the edge, then rounded along the edges. You can actually see it best in the screen shot. (In my pic with the replica, the screen used key is lit up. They are the same size too, just took the pic at an angle)

I think I have a picture looking directly at the key that would show the shape of this area well, I'll check in a bit...

Here's a shot of it from the front (rods removed). You can get a 'cross-section' look at it from this. The bottom shows how the part is curved, it's like that the entire length of the key, but still flat enough to sit up.

My deepest thanks to you for sharing Rik.
