BRRogers / Verity Cosplay / 7 Chambers - "MoM of All Heroes"

Internals will all be = and compatible... nothing changed there
That’s good news thanks. Yet it is still a bit sad that our early bought hilts are not as accurate now as the gen2 hilts will be. I mean it was expected will happen one day but this was very early.

It’s bittersweet on our end too my friend.

I was happy and mad all at the same time to make that determination

Echoing the feeling. Pretty disappointed with this news so soon after the v1 came out. Personally accuracy was a huge deal for me, and the selling point was really getting the most accurate Luke Hero ever. I was hoping to avoid the "iPhone effect" with this hilt, but doesn't look like it will be the case unfortunately.

In fairness Bryan and I have had heated debates about these changes. We opened the design anyway due to clocking concerns in some cases so already were modifying the design. It was at this point that we concluded that the subtle external changes queued for the static may as well be rolled into the FX. It was a deep discussion and part of the concerns were exactly this.

Personally I favor the Gen1 for my personal collection. The Gen2 includes some tiny machining nuances that I consider "unnecessary mistakes" that for me personally make it a less desirable hilt, for me there is a fine balance between faithful recreation and recreating every single Nick and scratch (like as an example for me the V2 mill mark is important because it is overt but the MoM pommel adjustments are not desirable to me).

I don't think the emergence of the Gen2 detracts from the Gen1 being the most accurate. It simply widens the accuracy gap from a pure absolute perspective to the original prop.

But I get it you guys... we don't want the iPhone syndrome either. If we keep tweaking the hero it will slow us down on other offerings, which we do not want.

I'm curious about one thing after looking at the product page, is there any reason why the Gen 2 will not come with a bronze neck?

Is it because of costs, popularity or accuracy? I'm still deciding on using the bronze or copper neck for my idealized grenade, so I was wondering which of the two looks the most accurate (that bronze is taking quite a while to darken, it's still pale and shiny haha).

It’s a good question that we’re discussing internally too.
Luckily this *isnt* a single piece static and our adjustments have been reserved for that offering as Adam mentioned (so thankful for that at on my end).

Bearing in mind interchangeable parts:
Gen 2 pommels overstocked with new hole geometry. (Mimics DaveP’s Gen 3 if you’ve seen it)

Gen 2. Grenades overstocked. Only one .25mm variance almost indistinguishable.

Pommels would be a different discussion. Their threading is specific to each body. My recommendation there for Gen 1 would be to use tools to modify for the ‘ugly cuts’ if they’re desired… I’ve never seen them attempted on any replica on this board so I don’t know how desirable they are to have in this context. I actually don’t even know if people will be happy we’ve added them to gen2

Should still come with bronze? Might be an oversight in the listing

I'm still fairly new to the nuances of all the hilts, and this new announcement seems to differentiate between FX and Hero versions, which seems to be respective to this product itself, not the prop.

I was after a hilt that looked 'brand new', that had the reveal function on the switch, and opened up to show the crystal chamber, which would light up with a green crystal. So, which product should I look to purchase, the FX or Hero? I'm not so much concerned with the ability to make sounds or attach a light-up blade.

That is being discussed. It has to do with availability of the specific bronze alloy in the UK but we are pushing back. Bronze is important so stay tuned.

The listing did say 2 windvanes, copper and aluminum. But if it should be all 3, then I think Lewis needs to correct it on the page.
Ok should be updated soon

You’ll be good either way… Gen 4 is still FX and includes everything to make a canon accurate Hero that can do everything you’ve described. I would recommend it.

Static will be a solid body construction that is just as the prop was seen on set. We haven’t released any info on that yet

The changes being discussed here are between generations of our FX capable rendition of the Luke RotJ cave hero hilt.

lol, sorry...i'm way late to this party and i was trying to speed read the info on the gen2 as compared to the others...i didn't want to miss any further info
Ahhh. I see.

So I don't have time to provide super detailed photos of evidence and backing we'll do that in the hero research thread as Time permits but... here is the extent of the changes:

1.) male thread lengths shortened in a few spots because we had a handful of reports of clocking issues due to thread binding. This resolved that.

2.) there is a very tiny (0.25mm) change to one plunge ring in the grenade. The angles of all do not change.

3.) an increased fillet at the pommel cube front lip to narrow part of the body between it and the "booster" behind the box"

4.) that same narrow part of the body between pommel cubes and "booster" has been given a compound taper geometry. We discovered this is not a purely even and straight narrow cylinder.

5.) the pommel static endcap hole has a modified geometry inside of it to reflect new evidence that this is a counterbore drill hole not a standard one.

6.) the machining mistakes causing vertical "nicks" and one particularly nicked up case in the pommel cube valleys have been added.

7.) and finally I personally was not satisfied with the blade socket diameter. It was just the hair too loose for my preference so that has been tightened up.

These are the changes that constitute the Gen2

Thank you...i appreciate that, i've been very busy and have not followed the thread in a while

Personally, I would be more worried about being accuracy-conscious with the static hero, which should look like it walked off the film’s set. For the FX version, which is essentially the basis for a high-end toy, I think it’s less worrisome.

And, at the end of the day, these minor tweaks are what only the most hardcore and anal-retentive prop-nerds would care about. I look forward to my eventual Gen 1 FX build, and see no need to sweat the small (0.25mm) stuff. As it is, the MoM is probably the single most impressive replica I’ve seen in terms of accuracy, presentation, and features/options. A few near-microscopic tweaks for the next batch—which no one would notice without being told about them—ain’t a big deal.

Well up until now I could say to my friends that this is the most accurate Luke Hero eva’ made. But now there is another. 0.25mm triggers my OCD :D

Incidentally this was the debate. When the new sources came out and Bryan and I discussed the changes we discussed either to split and roll this into separate designs.

From a Resource management perspective it was determined the same exterior geometry would be better across offerings and as such we folded the geometries into the FX too, begetting the Gen2 even tho the main reason to open the design was for practical assembly and tolerance issues (threads).

It certainly is not meant to be a slight to anyone who purchased previous batches; but more an attempt to improve an already In our opinion fantastic product.

Would it have been better to ignore those things and produce a batch knowing it could be even more accurate so as not to disappoint previous customers? Definitely a dilemma we faced then and are seeing the consequence of now.
