Bowcaster build - now complete

Hi all, Just finished my Chewbacca Bowcaster, about 3 days work in total.
Thought i would share the build pics
Like most of these type of props I started with MDF and added details made predominantly out of acrylic. The only parts not hand made were the balls and the 2 scopes. Due to the scopes being so cheap to buy off ebay (about $7 each) it really isn't worth the time to make them, considering the single point center scope took at least a few hours to do.

Really nice job! I would never have guessed it was MDF if you hadn't said so. The paint finish looks great too.

That is amazing! Awesome work. If you dont mind me asking, how did you cut/ form the acrylic?

Yeah MDF is a nice easy material to work with its just difficult to get a smooth finish. I usually bondo or rondo coat it and then sand it. Just about always use a spray putty before primer too just to make sure it is as smooth as possible.

Mostly cut using a bandsaw and shaped using either a disk sander or small files. It's really nice to work with. Bending/curving is done by using a heat gun.

Awwwww cmon! Your making me look bad! Started mine weeks ago and still dosent look anywhere as good yet! Absolutely amazing! Bravo! DId you use a template for the main body?

Wow, what a build!
It looks absolutely spot on. This is the only Star Wars weapon I've ever wanted.

Trust me it wasn't all crammed into 3 days straight work it was done off and on over a couple of weeks. I did use this template for the main body, no idea who the original artist is, but thank you if it was someone on here! For everything else i just used as many other reference pics as i could find

Amazing! Tell us more about the custom acrylic parts, are you working some of those on a lathe, or...?

Sorry Pedro, slow reply. No lathe work at all. I use a mix of tools for working with acrylic. Bandsaw, disk sander, large and mini files, heat gun for bending and shaping (sometimes freehand, sometimes with a shaped timber jig) It really is awesome stuff to work with, its strong, glues easily, can file, cut and sand easily, you get a really smooth finish for painting. I just buy it in scrap lots from a supplier close to me here, pretty inexpensive really.
