Boba Fett EE-3 blaster WIP-pic heavy

Hi everyone, here is my wip for Boba Fetts EE-3 blaster. This is my first post on here so hope you like it. I went out and bought hasbro's Fett blaster. What could be easier than spraying it black and doing a bit of weathering, i thought. I thought WRONG!!! As you will see over the course of this build. When i went on to the web to research the blaster, i noticed the main thing wrong with the Hasbro toy, it was way too small, amongst other things. So after a lot of research, i got everything together i needed and started.

Here is everything i need.

Blaster, wood for the stock, new sight, pipe for the barrel, t-track and plans.

The first thing i did was to cut my plank of wood in half and glue it together to make the right thickness of the butt. I then cut out my templates and drew round them.

I then cut them out and dismanteled the Hasbro blaster. I was going to keep the lights and sound, as you can see them in the picture, but was unable to as you wil see later in the build. Here you can still see the barrel attatched, but that gets removed later.

After cutting the barrel off, I went to work on the body and grip, whilst also working on the butt when the weather was good. After searching for ages for a suitible replacement for the grip, as the one attatched was too small, I decided to make one from scratch. I drew round the template I had on a piece of 9mm MDF, cut it out, then I cut out the middle, placed some card at the back and some card on the inside. As you can see in the pic, I still have to modify the trigger housing.

The next thing was to make the knurling on the grip, this was done by filling the grip with Milliput and using some car body filling wire mesh from Halfords and pushing it on to the still wet Milliput. I cut down the trigger housing and made a new trigger from plasticard. After a lot of sanding and filling i finally finished the butt and the main body. As you can see, i cut off the bits from the Hasbro's plastic stock and stuck them to mine.

The next thing to do is to stick the grip and new butt with grip on to the main body.
Ok, grip and butt have been glue on to the main body, and screw holes filled. Lots of filling and sanding to be done now.

On the inside of the main body, I placed some plasticard for the barrel to glue to, I also plan to stick some more plasticard on to help secure the barrel. This is why I can't use the lights and sound.

Barrel is now fixed on, i also put plastic card around the base of the barrel to help secure and keep it central.

I measured the barrel at 9" as after a lot of research this is a happy medium. Some say its 8" others 9.5" As you can see from the next pic, 2 blasters, one made by Master Replicas the other by HyperFirm. The Master Replicas is the larger of the 2. There are quite a few differences between them. Which is the accurate one? Well Master Replicas say their's is taken from the original prop but can't find info on the HyperFirm.

Next thing to do is cut the t-track to the right size and glue that on. More to follow. :D

I started working on the barrel and needed something for the front, I had already decided to use the piece from the Hasbro blaster and was just going to use some plasticard to stick it on, that was until I noticed my paint mixing dishes. I placed one on the end of the barrel and it fitted perfectly.

Here is the now completed barrel with all the t-track cut and glued and the front piece attached. Excuse the elastic bands, they will be removed when I an confident the tracks have set. I used a more rounded track than on the original prop, thought it would be kinder on hands if holding it for any long period. Next thing is the sight fixings which I'm working on at the moment, but wanted to wait on offering them up to the gun until I knew everything was stuck.

I still need to angle the front of the track yet, but again, wanted to make sure everything was secure before I started cutting and sanding.

All finished with the build, just going to go over the whole thing now with 1000/1200 wet and dry just to smooth it all out before I apply the undercoat. Going to give it a quick coat to check for any imperfections then put the top coat of black on. Going to spray it matt black first, weather it, give it a coat of gloss varnish to harden it a bit, then back to a matt finish with matt varnish.

Primer applied and just needed a bit of going over in a couple of places as can be seen by the white areas. Next step is to apply the top coat of flat black.

The black has now been applied and is looking better already. Next is the weathering. Not going to go overboard on this, will probably start with a wash of dark brown and go from there. Will do a more in depth report on what paints I used when finished.

Finished at last. I didn't go for the was, just went to the dry brush. I first started with a Games workshop boltgun metal with lots of black added to the mix, applied this all over apart from the grip and butt. I then lightened the mix and applied that to the super most surface's, then neat boltgun was applied to the most upper parts. A grey mix was brushed on to the butt and trigger. I still need to put a coat of gloss varnish and the a matt varnish just to toughen it a bit but that will be done when the weather is better.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this wip and hope it may help someone in the future. :D

I have some clear perspex to make some struts for the lightsaber stand you can see in this pic so I can display it.

:D

I know this isn't perfect, but for my first prop, I'm happy with it.

Looks great. Just shows how good these Hasbro can look.

Ah Boltgun Metal; that takes me back a few years.

Very nice work, indeed. You have a good imagination for making things work.

And to think I paid a couple hundred for a bronze casting of the British flare gun. :facepalm

Cheers guys, thanks for the positive comments. The T-Track was bought on eBay, cost me £15 for 12 lengths of 9".

Hello dave859,

Awesome blaster. I have a few questions. Where did you find the T-track, because everytime I type it into google I am not getting a good source?Second, what thickness wood did you use?I am guessing 2 3/4 inch thick piece glued together.Third what size pvc pipe are you using? As for the scope, did you use a 4x20 found at walmart? if not where can I find one? And last but not least, did you have a link to print out the template for the handle?Once again really awesome blaster, I look forward to making one.

Thank You in advance,Daren
