Boba Fett Costumers, who are the best here?

Hey friends,

After our AMAZING and successful 501st Make-A-Wish Fundraiser yesterday, I am so excited about costuming for charity. I have been struggling and praying and trying to figure out what costume to create. I was leaning toward a Star Trek costume, but if we can be honest about it, children LOVE Star Wars and I think the Star Wars costume will be a HUGE hit.

So, after talking to the AMAZING Arkansas 501st members yesterday, I decided to try and get a Boba Fett costume finished by (fingers crossed) February 2009 for our next Make-A-Wish Fundraiser.

I need a bit of help, so I am getting advice over on the Dented Helmet. But I wanted to ask what members here on the RPF can help me get a beautiful Boba Fett costume? Mine is going to be more for Charity events, and I really want it to be just amazing and accurate and beautiful!

I have put ALL my other projects on the back burner and am going ahead full speed on this costume. But I don't know where to begin.

Who does the best runs of pieces and parts? More importantly, I have a larger than average head, so who makes the best Boba Helmets since I will need a slightly larger than average head.

What are my options about the Boba blaster, since I can't afford the MR version.

Thanks so much friends. I am selling TWO of my guitars to raise money for this project. :cry haha That is how dedicated I am to getting this done by February!

Okay, wish me luck! Thanks for advice!

the guys and gals on the dented helmet are awesome ,you don't need to look any further than there , they have all the info you need , but i will throw my two cents out there , i think most people start with the helmet , sgt fang makes a reasonably priced , high quality accuratte helmet , of course depending on how big your head is , you may want to go with a msh (movie sized helmet) if you can find one and of course boba maker out of the uk makes top notch boba stuff , expensive but incredible . i myself have a marrow sun helmet .which is incredible ,but i think he is out of biz ,anyway the dented helmet is a great place with a great group of peeps and they have everything you need to make a top notch boba fett oh and as far as the blaster i see there is someone on there doing a budget run of the webley for like 45 bucks

Remember: There's ACCURACY, SPEED, and LOW COST

You can have TWO, but NOT all three.

In other words, to get accuracy and get it fast (by Feb), you're going to pay through the nose for it. To get it fast and cheap, you're going to sacrifice accuracy (it'll look like crap). To get it cheap and accurate, it's going to take a long time (longer than you have).

It sounds like you want it accurate and fast, which means it's going to be REALLY expensive. You'll have to buy many parts "ready-to-wear", and do whatever it takes to hit the Feb deadline. For that, you'll sacrifice money. Lots of it.

Just as reference, my Boba costume was wearable in 1 year, and I've continued to work on it for the past 6 years. I currently have around $4400 in it.

Boba is NOT a cheap or "easy" costume. You see people all the time posting on TDH in August and wanting a wearable costume by Halloween. I'd say 99% never make their target date. It's not a costume where you can just shop for parts usually. You have to wait until someone is doing a run of part "X", and then jump on it (Mark Cheng boots, anyone???).

Now that you know what you're getting into, good luck! :):thumbsup

I actually put my Boba together in 30 days.
I have not really changed anything since.
I added toe-spikes (didn't have any at the time) and changed the Wookiee braids, but that's it

So...
it is possible to put a Boba together quickly.
It all depends on your resources.

As people have already stated,
Go with the TDH people, they know what they are doing over there.

yeah, i usually think of it as time, talent and money. you need 2 of those to make it happen :)

my guess is that all the fetts that chime in here will also reply on TDH. there are some fett-folk that don't go there, but not many!

IMO

Helmet=Fettpride, SgtFang, Boba Maker.
Armor=Fettpride,Boba Maker.

depending on funds you can do it quick...
this is not a cheap suit to make, and you may get the upgrade bug...often.

Only problem with the wookie scalps is Julie is pretty well booked up to 2010.

Better look elsewhere for those.

However Ladysewforus is my recommendation for jumpsuit, if only for the easy access zipper for those times when you've had too much liquid refreshment.

Strictly for hydration purposes, of course. ;)

Fettpride may be good, but he ripped me off once. I won't deal with him anymore.

I know he is going through a rough patch right now, but this was before all of that happened. If circumstances were different, I would be a little more persistent at getting my money back.

I've dealt with Bobamaker in the past also. Love him and his work! Highly recommend him to anyone. Downside is there is a wait period...worth the wait though.

I think he asked who was the best... not who ripped you off.
:thumbsdown

I've bought stuff from Bobamaker a couple of times and yes you will have to wait for stuff but he will always tell you how long that will be before you buy, and he hasn't failed on those time estimates yet with me. :thumbsup
Not one of the it'll be ready in a week and nothing but excuses for the next 6 months types.

Yeah, but if someone is watching this thread in preperation of making their own suit and sources to seek out, I would certainly want to know who to be leary of.
:thumbsup

As most of us can probably attest to, down the road someone is bound to say they have been ripped off by someone. I've had it happen to me, but in the long run, I want to say it was a misunderstanding that went out of hand.

But as for thedentedhelmet, going there you will get good reviews of Fettpride from 98% of that board. Which if it is any consulation, I was wiery of FP way back, but he is a good person.

Chuck, head on over there man, its just a vast array of knowledge over there.

But as it was well said earlier, its ACCURACY, SPEED, LOW COST. You can have 2 but not three, and in some cases, only one!!

Like I've seen some of the best suits assembled in a month! It's insane...

But as for me, going on 7 years there, I have FINALLY obtained all my pieces, and have begun assembly. So this will be a monumental occasion to finish!!

TDH = (y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Regarding FP, I believe that the deal gone bad would be something he would surely make good on, even in this late stage of whatever happened....he's top shelf material. Regarding his availability of items, he's busy,...very busy with personal priorities. You can still find some FP items float around for sale here and there so his namesake is still attainable. Again...top shelf!

There are just so many available talents and items there that can build a stellar costume, but as was mentioned price, speed and accuracy are not an equation that equals a costume. You can pick one or two, but not all three.

Head on over:)
