blue foam question

Here is one for you. can you use fiberglass over the blue foam mats from walmart and blue insulation foam (comes in sheets) from home improvement stores? I'd like to glass my armors once i get them perfected.

I think the camping mats are a urethane of some sort, so you can 'glass directly on it. The insulation foam is a styrofoam, so you need a barrier of some sort or else the polyester resin will eat it.

I figured. I could try sheet styrene. Well I'll figure something out i'm way ahead of myself as i haven't got a clue how to even start the project and it needs done by april x.x

Would a layer of duct tape on blue foam from home depot be enough to fiberglass over? I used duct tape all over my Where the wild things are head for Carol monster last year and then added fur and painted exposed face areas with gesso (Any paint besides spray will do actually). Thus the duct tape was thin enough to maintain the shape sculpted in foam!

Otherwise - I have never used fiberglass

what i may do it use some scraps to test it. we have duct tape and we have fiberglass resin and i think clothe too.

I have bondoed, painted, rondoed, and fiber glassed over the blue camping mats and nothing eats through them (even put acetone on them for a test and nothing happened)

i'm glad to hear it because with all the work going into it i want these to last plus i want them smooth. now i just need to figure out how to tranfer pep files so they work on foam @.@ glad i have all winter to figure this out lol

I've used latex paint as a barrier on pink foam/ blue foam in order to spray foam models with lacquer paint. I'm not sure how resin and latex paint react to each other though....

I built my foam suit from pep transfered to foam. Just play with the join/disjoin faces command and remember that you don't need any edge pieces as the foam thickness takes care of that.

Just make pieces large enough that you can without damaging integrity of curvature, etc.

My friend was wondering about paint to seal the foam, i think she's using the mats for her suit too.
