Ok dokey back again. I swear I do like marvel characters alot however I am doing another dc character. Got some great help and words from my wonder woman and on the day got lots of compliments however I really like going to con is obscure costumes so decided to go for a life time favourite Blue beetle. This costume will draw on both Jaime's costume and Ted's as I will draw my own and pick my favourite bits. I am still very much learning and will probably waffle but please question anything I do.

These are my inspiration pictures.

Ok so to start with Ive bought this kids shell back pack off eBay for like 6 quid. One because for con I could put stuff in it and two because hopefully I can turn it into a massive scarab for my back.

Firstly I sanded this down trying to take some on the shine off the plastic so good by hippo.

next I sprayed the pack with a black spray paint. This was a car auto black can from b&m so figured for a quid I'd give it a go. That's it so far. Hoping I can make it look right for what I want. Hope the shape is alright.

Always looking for a project that hasn't been done too often/in a while.
I hope your build will be a success,Miss:thumbsup Enjoy the creative process

Ok so I also picked up a half mannequin really cheap after my ww build so figured I could use that. But have edited it a bit in parts.

That's some very cheap foam that is a little too soft for carving but I'm adding it to the mannequin to increase the bust so it looks like

I then bound it tight with a strong masking tape to smooth it over 20160604_151405.jpg
Then when smoothed off I added a light coat of a less sticky tape over it so I can draw my pattern out.

ordered some new goggles off ebay they were black but I've revamped them for blue beetle colours. Actually like the orange even though its not really my ideal colour but glad it shows in my dark hair.

Also drew round my template for creating little legs to hang over the top so it appears that the scarab is wrapped around, Eva foam layers, then wrapped in black worbla. Then hot glued on.

built a back piece for the Armour. Its a typical fold over edge of worbla piece and like it all my own free hand.

The back pack has been sprayed blue and got the red scarab eyes on. This red is just my first colour, I will later on lighten the centers and darken the rims so hopefully give that ' on and ready to talk'glow.

anyway to build the legs i cut about a meter of garden wire and poked a hole through the canvass of the back pack and then sewed the legs into the lining of the backpack so they wouldn't slide around. The wire is thick enough to hold shape but thin enough for me to manage to bend.

my little job will be covering the legs in paper-mache, worbla or foam.
