Blade Runner Tomenosuke blaster—modding & found case/display

I’m now slowly working on modding this Tomenosuke blaster I got recently. Waiting for the new metal barrel to arrive before I continue work on it. Eventually I’d like to swap the cylinder with a metal one—whenever I get the chance to actually find one! So far I’ve only started aging some of the surfaces.

Also found a vintage case that was originally for a slide projector. I’ll likely replace the Picturol logo with something else at some point, although I kind of like the design. It’s actually a pretty good fit for the blaster, and I was able to use the original foam insert that came with the blaster packaging as well, after some minor modifications. I then used my cricut machine to cut out a piece of felt to finish off the surface of the foam for a cleaner look.

I’ll update this thread as I get through more of the work on the blaster!

Couldn’t resist adding the unicorn somewhere on this, so I replaced the slide projector graphic on the front with it; silver foil, cut on the cricut machine and then applied to the surface with some weathering effects to dull it down a bit.

Thanks! The case works out really well; also there are areas where can slip in other smaller props as I collect them.

Haven’t done much this week, other than installing the vintage ‘binding post’ on the side. I’m tempted to just leave it unpainted, as I like the natural tarnish on it, but I’ll probably end up doing it anyway and then just chipping into the finish.

The replacement metal barrel will arrive today, so I’ll get around to that this weekend. Other than the weathering work on it, there doesn’t seem to be much to do on it (a lot of the parts I’d want to work on are hard to find!). I’m liking a lot of the custom themed versions of this blasters out there—as cool as this prop is, it’s been done to death, like the lightsabers

Installed the metal barrel—excuse the strands of fur in the first photo.....building a puppet at the same time haha!

Need to find a metal replacement cylinder now....

Decided to mess around with adding the wires (aesthetic, not actually wired for lights), but didn’t want to go all the way with it so I didn’t glue anything down, or cut into the side of the cover for the inner wires to feed through towards the bottom. The other pair of wires just run from the inside of the cover to the compartment on the other side. I have the wires going through the compartment with the lights/batteries; everything stays put quite well. I used wire from an old pair of Apple earphones—the thinner wire appears to be close enough in size. Kind of amusing looking, but also removable if i decide not to leave them in!
